Playoffs:

Kaprizov: 12 pts in 19 games

Leon: 108 pts in 74 games

Kaprizov is a high-end William Nylander which is a very very good player though

Kaprizov was a rookie in his first playoffs, then he scored 7 goals in 6 games that still didn't help them to win the series because the team sucked, and he basically played injured during his last playoffs.

NHL Max contracts should be set at 15% of the Cap, this isn’t the NBA, need a solid 23 Man roster to win the Cup.
Isn’t that the truth. Even Mario and Wayne won cups on super teams. The best players in nhl don’t tilt the game like a starting pitcher, quarterback or nba player does. And especially in a cap world, teams who have players out producing their caphit are the ones winning cups.

Jagr as dominant of a career, outside his early years winning 2 cups on a super team, he didn’t sniff a cup run the rest of his career

You couldn't enforce that at all, Draisaitl's cap hit could be below 15% as quickly as its second year of the contract.

88 going up to 92 million seems to be the general consensus for next summer when the contract starts, but then there is new Canadian TV deal coming for the NHL which will probably causes another 5 mill bump the following year.

Players would lock out the league for a season if the owners tried that.

Draisaitl with McDavid vs without during that stretch. (3 playoffs).

TOI - 374 mins / 475 mins (5v5)
CF% - 59.14 / 45.10
SF% - 56.29 / 43.10
GF% - 69.09 / 38.89
xGF% - 60.23 / 44.56
SCF% - 60.65 / 45.82

Also facts.

14M is a lot to pay a player that hasn't shown the ability to carry his own line - especially in his 30+ years. You'd think a "top 2" player in the world could and would find success with lesser line mates.

In saying that - I don't blame the Oilers for signing this deal and it really is the only feasible outcome. It's the best shot they have at winning, so take that chance while you have it.
Cherry-picking a small sample size where Drai was hurt in two out of three playoffs. Nice.

If you look at their stats over the length of Draisaitl's contract it is much closer than that.

Make no mistake, the reason he signed was money. No one else was able to give him the 8th year at 14 mill.

That is a lot of money. And the Oilers had to give him what he wanted, or he would have walked.
As opposed to what? Draisaitl playing for free somewhere else?

Your trolling is getting worse, not better. Some Oilers trolls actually put in effort.

For what he's capable of and his chemistry with McJesus,
this seems pretty fair.

Congrats to Oiler fans, you got to keep arguably the best duo in history for longer.

Apologies if this has been answered but I don't really wanna sift through 30+ pages looking for the answer.

Does Drai own property in a lower tax area? Just curious why he decided to take the vast majority of his deal in signing bonuses. Wouldn't his bonus be taxed like 50% each year if his principal residence is in Alberta?

Actually the Penguins winning in 2017 with Letang not even available to play kinda blows a giant crater into the whole "you can't have X players earning Y cap!", because that means they effectively won with their best players earning about 59% of the cap due to Letang being a 7.5 mill cap hit that didn't even play a game in the playoffs.

The Leafs problem isn't their salary structure. It's that Matthews and Marner and Tavares don't show up to play big in the playoffs. The Oilers big three of McDavid, Draisaitl, and Bouchard have some of the highest PPG in the playoffs in the modern era (last 30 years lets say). McDavid is no.1, Draisaitl no.2, MacKinnon no.3, and even Bouchard is just a hair below Makar and near Sidney Crosby himself, way above any of the Leafs big three forwards.
Two flaws with that though.

1. You can't just point to a supreme outlier (the Letang thing) and say, 'we'll just do that!' There's a reason it's so noteworthy. Doesn't mean Edmonton can't do it, but it's not just as easy as that.

2. Pointing to Bouchard's ppg is..technically accurate but entirely based on where he plays and whom he plays with. He's a good offensive D, but he's not close to the echelon that his ppg in playoffs suggests.

Lol slightly better, Draisital and Nylander aren't comparable.
Over their careers? Definitely. But Nylander has been steadily rising and was 9 points shy of Draisaitl last season. 11.5x8 vs 14x8. I'd say the pay difference is representative of their talent gaps with both probably getting 1-1.5 mil more than they should

They have a lot more time than that !

Sure about that?

Edmonton has wasted a lot of assets over the last few years, Broberg/Holloway misses are the latest one

When you’ll have 3 players taking 40M from the cap how are you going to have a deep roster?

So far you’ve been able to overcome (few times) that by having McDavid& Drai post #99 like numbers in the post season but they are not going to be able to do that forever, especilly Drai who’s getting closer to 30

So you pay McDavid, Drai, Bouchard and Edmonton has a very short window to win

Imagine thinking, double checks threads post....Kaprizov is better then Draisatl. That's a new bingo number called for sure.

Can someone dig up the numbers for Drai without McDavid. Remind some that the guy isn't just riding mcdavids coat tails. That's just copium bs.

Great deal overall. The dynamic duo stay together. Team has some quality shots left for their cup

There not even the best duo in Oilers history LOL what the fack

That belongs to Gretzky - Messier
Or Gretzky - Kurri how ever you see it

My God they haven't even won shit yet

The only objective data right now are Draisaitl can score points playing along with McDavid. We don't have any other ones. And playing with McDavid Hyman has turned into 50+ goal scorer... Maybe you think Hyman is the better player than Kaprizov as well?
Ok so Draisatl has an art Ross mutiple time 100 point scorer?

Multiple time 50 goal scorer?

VS Kaprisov

Who scored 100+ points one time in his career

Sir please remove your head from your ass.

You caught me. I'll give the Oilers next year and then I think it's downhill from there. I just think there is a lot to not like about the oilers. stan bowman, corey perry, evander kane, years of being gifted 1st overall picks while other teams never got the opportunity, a creepy asshole owner, giving Virtanen a PTO, Craig Mctavish, Kevin Lowe etc.
Gifted firsts? That's called "Luck of the Draw". If the league didn't monkey with draft lottery odds to try to stop teams from stockpiling 1st overall picks, the Oilers only end up Hall and Nuge as 1st overall picks.

I'll give you the rest though. There is a lot to not like about the Oilers. Half expecting Tony DeAngelo to come in on a PTO too.

Just like unknown Emberson is some kind of defensive wizard all of a sudden?
A few people pointing out that his defensive stats from last year look pretty good does not mean the fanbase thinks he is a wizard of any type. Fans will always hope that their GM found a steal though. I think you're confusing "I hope he isn't nothing", with "he's a wizard".

Ya, there is no history of Toronto area born players leaving their team as soon as they become a UFA. Never happened, so saying McDavid will come home to Toronto is never going to happen and pathetic to say.

Get real. While not likely, it is more than just fantasy.
Common knowledge that McDavid was instrumental in getting Draisaitl to extend.

What you're describing has happened once in the last 20 years and the leafs just stripped him of the C and its been an utter failure. So yeah its not happening. 1-7 in playoff series since Tavares made the biggest mistake of his life.

As A Canuck fan I say bullshit--if he became a UFA teams would have been lining up

Or traded and then a team would have then been able to give him the 8th year. I think we all know it's easy to be loyal with 14m, but that doesn't change that he actually wanted to stay in Edmonton.

Jesus man. You guys now have (or will have. $50M wrapped up in 4 guys. I like the oilers but that’s gonna be tough putting together an 18 man supporting roster with $38M.
