He was a good solider at a good cap hit but he's not an everyday NHLer anymore (and not an NHLer on a team like the Oilers)

I hope he clears and is a good leader in the AHL and returns in the playoffs as a black ace

I’m really confused why they watched Krueger put Skinner on the 4th line and saw how that didn’t work at all, then said- that. Let’s do that.

You’d need 20 games or so to see if he clicks with McD or Drai, otherwise he’s useless. They gave him like 5 back when the whole team stunk, it wasn’t immediate magic, and dude has been screwed ever since.

Just weird, GM and coach not really on the same page. I like Skinner, thought it’d work, but I’m not sure they even gave it a real chance.

I don't deny he never got an extended look, and that's not really fair to him. We also knew he was a one dimensional winger, so management shouldn't be surprised. He is what he is. I didn't want to add him in the first place. I was pretty open about it while many liked it. That was about the use of cap space in the off season vs him as a player, even though I'm not fan of him.

While being very critical of his addition and wanting him gone, I can say as an organization we messed this up. This is just as much if not more so on the team for the lack of current success. I can admit, he's not in a situation he can succeed in and isn't being given any opportunity to change it. More reason for both parties to find a mutual solution that would benefit both parties.

This mess up is on Jeff Jackson. Skinner is not a Knoblauch style of player. I'm not surprised he doesn't trust in him. I'd personally rather have Derek Ryan travel with the team as the 13th forward. I don't see him as an NHL regular but he's been good for the Oilers for a long time, can play center and you can't ever question his effort. I also don't think Ryan as a healthy scratch is at all a distraction for the team. Skinner as one, is clearly becoming a regular news story. He can smile to the media and say the right things but this must be maddening for him and his agent.

Well said, glad someone closer to the team is seeing it similarly. And especially that last part- I have a soft spot for Skinner, he really needed to rebound well to be considered for other top 6 roles/a continuing nhl career. Instead they’ve made him look as bad as possible, oof. He’s a dude who could have another 3+ years left if he stumbles onto the right squad, or he could disappear surprisingly quickly if he gets another year or two of random 4th lines. Unique player, chaos machine, league is better with him (a lil bit).

He seems a very likeable guy. I'd wish him well, but would for many reasons like to move on.

Great pro and a great locker room guy by all accounts. With that being said, he's done as an everyday guy on a playoff level team.

Can he be much worse than the likes of Parker Kelly?
Colorado strugles badly with faceoffs. If he can play even moderate PK he might be a fit in the playoffs.

Bu the sound of things there may be a spot for Derek Ryan somewhere in the the league in a limited capacity. I absolutely wish him the best of luck. He's been a good soldier for the Oilers.

If this is the end, then he battled.hard and carved out a hell of a career after playing in whatever the f*** UHL is, 4 years in CIS, Hungary and then Sweden where he crushed it and got an NHL contract with Carolina and took off from there.

Pretty much agree with all of this, but will just add that Skinner's NMC prevents the Oilers from waiving him instead of Ryan.

Philp's spot now?
It's Philp's spot to lose. If he proves he isn't ready, it likely wouldn't take much to get a 4C at the deadline.

I'm assuming unclaimed and we see him again. He'd be a great guy to have around for playoffs for the Oil. Nice depth piece.
This is my assumption as well. He'll be one of the "black aces" come playoff time, if nothing else. It would be nice to see him again to get his 41 games in this season.
