Undrafted. Four years of CIS. 29 before playing a game in the NHL. 600 games. A nice run for a 38 year old guy.
I’m really confused why they watched Krueger put Skinner on the 4th line and saw how that didn’t work at all, then said- that. Let’s do that.
You’d need 20 games or so to see if he clicks with McD or Drai, otherwise he’s useless. They gave him like 5 back when the whole team stunk, it wasn’t immediate magic, and dude has been screwed ever since.
Just weird, GM and coach not really on the same page. I like Skinner, thought it’d work, but I’m not sure they even gave it a real chance.
I don't deny he never got an extended look, and that's not really fair to him. We also knew he was a one dimensional winger, so management shouldn't be surprised. He is what he is. I didn't want to add him in the first place. I was pretty open about it while many liked it. That was about the use of cap space in the off season vs him as a player, even though I'm not fan of him.
While being very critical of his addition and wanting him gone, I can say as an organization we messed this up. This is just as much if not more so on the team for the lack of current success. I can admit, he's not in a situation he can succeed in and isn't being given any opportunity to change it. More reason for both parties to find a mutual solution that would benefit both parties.
This mess up is on Jeff Jackson. Skinner is not a Knoblauch style of player. I'm not surprised he doesn't trust in him. I'd personally rather have Derek Ryan travel with the team as the 13th forward. I don't see him as an NHL regular but he's been good for the Oilers for a long time, can play center and you can't ever question his effort. I also don't think Ryan as a healthy scratch is at all a distraction for the team. Skinner as one, is clearly becoming a regular news story. He can smile to the media and say the right things but this must be maddening for him and his agent.
Well said, glad someone closer to the team is seeing it similarly. And especially that last part- I have a soft spot for Skinner, he really needed to rebound well to be considered for other top 6 roles/a continuing nhl career. Instead they’ve made him look as bad as possible, oof. He’s a dude who could have another 3+ years left if he stumbles onto the right squad, or he could disappear surprisingly quickly if he gets another year or two of random 4th lines. Unique player, chaos machine, league is better with him (a lil bit).
Dude doesn't make many mistakes. If he could skate, 20 teams would claim him.Solid career, but this is probably it for him.
Contenders don't claim cooked 38-yearolds on waivers, they put them there.Old Guy Without a Cup... He's destined to join a contender.
Pretty much agree with all of this, but will just add that Skinner's NMC prevents the Oilers from waiving him instead of Ryan.I don't deny he never got an extended look, and that's not really fair to him. It's Philp's spot to lose. If he proves he isn't ready, it likely wouldn't take much to get a 4C at the deadline.Philp's spot now?
This is my assumption as well. He'll be one of the "black aces" come playoff time, if nothing else. It would be nice to see him again to get his 41 games in this season.I'm assuming unclaimed and we see him again. He'd be a great guy to have around for playoffs for the Oil. Nice depth piece.
I won't be shocked if someone does claim him. A young team that could use another veteran in the locker room, like San Jose, Anaheim or Chicago. Even if one of those teams claim him, I wouldn't expect him to play much.Dude doesn't make many mistakes. If he could skate, 20 teams would claim him.
