Kind of surprised Nurse would want a 4 year deal. Guess he might think he could get a good contract in his early 30s as well.

After Jones, 8 years might be too rich for us. The timing will line up that we need to sign all of McDavid/Drai/Nurse around the same time. If we can't be contenders by then, might lose them all in short order.

Yup. That makes the most sense. Hes 26, 27 by the end of the year. A 4 year contract takes him to 30-31 when hed be looking to re-sign or hit free agency.

This lets him get paid twice. If he does an 8 year extension, that takes him to 35. Will somone give him a long contract at 35? Because you just know someone will give him 7 years at 31.

Doesn’t want to sign an 8 year contract that buys all of his good years and none of his bad

4 x 10, already took a bridge...time for cash now...Jones got 9.5, don't see it lower then Jones

I love Nurse, but Jones is a way better defender. Why would you expect him to make more?

Based on term? I dunno, I imagine the Oilers would be preferring 8 year term now, so Nurse may need to leave something on the table to secure the timing he wants.

He will get overpaid based on the haul Jones just got. Last year he was very good and played at a top pairing level but I would be awfully weary paying him much more than $7.5M per based on a 56 game sample where he was racking up points whenever he passed the puck to McDavid.

Nurse doesn't need to leave anything on the table unless he wants too, he's UFA at the end of the season.
