EDM BUF Mcleod Tullio for Matt Savoie

Woody always put a huge emphasis on hitting, but I wonder how much it took out of our team as the playoffs got deeper. I'm more so worried about weathering hits than hitting with abandon. I want to see other teams bounce off us (like Florida, Vegas, Minnie) or us able to escape hits with our speed and overwhelm (like Colorado). We were built kind of 50/50 last year speed and size but not the most elite in the League in either category. With the loss of speedsters and size on our roster this year it's not looking great.
Yeah for sure its important to have a team built for physical play esepcially if your plan is to maintain that type of play over the long haul.
I dont expect this team to be a physical team however I do expect them to have a team that (as you put it) can weather a physical game over a long stretch of games.
This team just isnt going to be able to do.

I just hope that Bowman figures out that this team has no real identity and makes some deals to change that.

Buffalo fan wondering how Savoie is coming along. I've always been intrigued by him. Injuries and his size had me worried, but if he hits- he'd be Briere-lite. I'm assuming most of his season has been in the AHL?

Wait until when if you ever make the playoffs with McLeod. Great speed player that works in the regular season. Balls of a church mouse and absolutely zero ability to elevate in the playoffs. Wide turns, blowing snow, anything to avoid a hit or having to make a hit.
You're asking a Buffalo fan to wait for the playoffs and see....

I must say that I have been impressed by what I saw in his short stint with the big team. Personally I'd be surprised if he is not a fixture in the top 6 before his ELC is done. And the lower cap hit for two more years is a big plus.

Form an Oiler perspective, I like this trade more today than I did when it was made and I liked it at the time. It may well end up being a win-win deal.

Good to read. I have faith in the kid. He's so damn shifty and has great awareness. This does seem like a great trade for your team. You need good players on an ELC, and Savoie certainly has that potential.
