Am I crazy or isn’t there a rule against trading players who are on IR?
That's fine, most Oilers show up once every 10 games..Frederic has all the makings to be a premier power forward in this league. The problem is that version of Trent Frederic only shows up 10 games a year
Assuming Frederic can competently take a spot in the bottom six, this is an excellent move for a cap strapped team. They can bury a higher contract from an under-performing player, and it gives them additional cash to make another, more important move.
Running pretty thin on trade chips, though. The cupboards have been getting barer, so if they don't make the right move for a goalie, they'll likely have blown their last chance at a cup.
Yes we have missed their play style. But we’ve mostly just not scored enough in general.I'll let Oilers fans disabuse me if I am incorrect, but I wonder if this deal isn't designed to help their forecheck by shaking up their bottom six. Have they missed Foegele and McLeod?
I wouldnt recommend it lol, emotions are running high today as that board collapsesDont bother with reason. The Devils board is obsessed with blaming Fitzgerald for things like nepotism, ruining the team and poor drafting; anyone who comments otherwise is removed
Is it okay if I say something over here, @NJDevs26 ?![]()
Did the trade deadline come and go already? Oh yeah its on March 7th.
Ever think that maybe, just maybe they're not done?
Hmmm interesting angle.
So if Frederic is at $575K AAV, and they bury the max (1.5X league min... ~1.3M) then they effectively just gained cap in the transaction?
That's cool.
Has anyone ever done this before? (ie effectively get a playable player for under league min?... I've never heard of it, but I imagine it's been a deadline thing before?)
Oilers love making moves that don't move the needle. Should have just made a move for an actual difference maker this season instead of all these smaller moves.

I think what's so funny here is Fredric is part of the Milan Lucic trade tree since they traded Martin Jones, Collin Miller and the 1st for Jakub Zboril. Next, they trade Sean Kuraly and the 1st that picked Fredric for Martin Jones. Lucic left the Kings for Edmonton.
The Oilers totally won big on this deal.
both were disappointing in the playoffs. I'm glad neither are back. There's a ton of fan-smoke. Not much team smoke.
They miss Foegele and McLeod's speed for sure. More forechecking is good, and I do think adding that element to the 3rd line should help.
The Oilers are why the Bruins got Lucic(they were the ones who traded the pick for Samsonov) though, so you've got to factor that in there somewhere too.I think what's so funny here is Fredric is part of the Milan Lucic trade tree since they traded Martin Jones, Collin Miller and the 1st for Jakub Zboril. trent frederic is the man, best of luck to him
Are you suggesting that Lucic signing with Edmonton nearly a decade ago factors into who won this trade?I think what's so funny here is Fredric is part of the Milan Lucic trade tree since they traded Martin Jones, Collin Miller and the 1st for Jakub Zboril.
