The forwards have been markedly worse than the defence this year. We badly lacked energy guys and a physical presence. Generally the defence is very good.So the Oilers desperately need help on defense and/or a new goaltender, so they go out and trade for a middle six winger?
We lost an awful lot of speed and size letting Foegele, Holloway, and McLeod go (though McLeod is as soft as a gentle summer rain) and with Kane out all year we have virtually no physicality outside of Podkolzin.wouldn't go as far as zero, at least Trent hits from time to time, the Oilers overall toughness is that of a spring time snowflake
Trent doesn't fight much anymore, but he'll fight the first game or two. I think he's a good fighter and throws bombs.I don't think we were looking to grab a guy to fight, but we need someone with a physical edge. Most are forwards are like 1-2 hits/60. It's just a better soft forward group that was looking for either some grit in the middle/bottom six
This team just drastically is lacking someone that will go out and spark the team when the goals aren't coming.
Wanner has taken a massive step back, for what it's worth. He used to be a good skater for his size but now he moves like Desharnais. I don't think he's much of a loss, prospect wise.WTF are people talking about. The Oilers have one of the weakest sets of bottom 9 wingers and bottom six players in general. Yes they need forward help, desperately.
The issue is that Frederic is somewhat of a marginal upgrade depending on his level of play (much better before this year). They're trading a large proportion of their futures (2nd + 4th + Wanner leaves little left) on the hope that he'll bounce back.
They apparently asked and at the trade deadline you're not allowed to use a time machine to last summer.
Good return for a bottom 6 LTIR player they likely don’t re-signInteresting to see Boston selling when they are still very much in the playoff mix.
A 2RD?Both? Frederic is being claimed as a guy he really isn’t.
Did the trade deadline come and go already? Oh yeah its on March 7th.Interesting Oilers would use assets on a bottom 6 fwd instead of prioritizing goalie or dman.
Ever think that maybe, just maybe they're not done? This is a huge overpay for Edmonton. They need D and a goalie, but hey another forward![]()
I think he'll surprise a few people down the stretch meaning.....in a good way .He has been useless this season outside of a week or two here or there. But he hits and fights and scores occasionally. Little like a young Corey Perry without any of the talent.

Actually the Oilers depth, wingers, and lack of physical play have been the weakest area of the team this season, so this is a definite need. His cap hit is coming in at 600k, so there is no way this move is a reason they won't be able to make any other moves by Friday. They aren't getting a goalie upgrade or defenseman for a 600k cap hit. It will take some bigger moving parts, if not Kane on LTIR, to make either of those happen. There are no credible rumors the team is seeking a goalie (the exact opposite actually). We can definitely criticize them for that while prioritizing yet another middle/bottom six forward on a team loaded with them over a G or top four D.
To change the line in the movie Airplane,This site is going to be an absolute catastrophe to use on Friday. It's borderline unusable now.
What does this have to do with acquiring Trent Frederic?Very nice fit for Edmonton, they needed some bite.
I believe Lachance’s father is a scout for the Devils. We can use some size. Hopefully, he makes it as a bottom six if he signs with Jersey.Shane Lachance seems like a pretty decent toss in to eat some cap space. I wonder if he wasn't planning to sign in Edmonton. Hmmm. He's tracked well for a late pick, so if NJ signs him, they will be happy with the free asset.
Well that makes a ton of sense, especially if Lachance didn't want to move to Canada or to the west coast.I believe Lachance’s father is a scout for the Devils. We can use some size. Hopefully, he makes it as a bottom six if he signs with Jersey.
