As is that’s an absolutely brutal deal for Arizona, if you swap Broberg in for Sam it’s marginally better but still bad and not remotely close to what would be a winning bid for a cost controlled 1D.

Is this offer happening before the trade deadline? Or during the off-season when the Coyotes and Oilers know where the 2022 1st picks are?

I think 1st + Broberg + Barrie is a fair deal. Whether Zona fans agree completely hinges on what they think of Broberg, but I don’t know how much higher bids would go beyond that?
Barrie - while flawed - is still a legit 4/5. They have to fill out a roster somehow down there, the guys with term that can actually play must hold some value to them.

So 1st + Broberg for Chychrun and you want to boned them more by throwing a cap dump their way.

This is absolutely brutal for Arizona, Barrie is crap and Samorukov isn't anything special. Noway Bill Armstrong trades Jakob Chychrun for that worthless offer.
The Trouba trade seems like a decent comparable to this. The Rangers sent a first and 20OA for Trouba, who I believe was the same age as Chychrun is now (23). The Jets had a a gun to their heads, but if Arizona even bothered to counter, they must have some motivation as well.
Broberg was Holland's first pick with the Oilers, and I have a feeling he'll be valued unreasonably high, but perhaps there is a deal to be done.

Adding Broberg to that package instead of swapping him with Samorukov seems more fair.

The reported ask has been a young NHLer, a top prospect and a 1st.
Barrie is a cap dump more than he is a young NHLer. Taking Barrie means Edmonton will have to Add another piece. Samurokov is not the prospect Arizona would want. The 1st is a good piece.
I don’t see the Trouba deal as a real comparison.
Trouba was 25, (2 years older) was 1 year away from UFA and had made it clear he wanted out of Winnipeg and would only sign with a select few teams (Rangers being one).
Chychrun is younger and signed for 3-4 more years, eliminating that walk risk, AND it’s at a very affordable rate.
Chychrun should cost a decent amount more.
You are correct. For some reason I thought the Trouba deal was in 2017 because time doesn't mean anything any more. Thanks for the correction.
I’d be surprised if there are any neutral fans that feel Broberg tips the scales enough to get the deal done, never mind enough that Arizona is adding anything.

Arizona rejected a similar offer for Kuemper, so why would they accept this one for Chychrun?

From Edm the requirement would be something like McLeod, Broberg(Holloway) and 2022 1st. still probably not be enough.
Adding the Barrie contract as a dump that has 2.5 more years would cost Edm more, like Holloway instead of Broberg.

Don't really see the point. The problem with the Oilers is goaltending.
They have more or less the same defence, last year they sucked when playing infront of Koskinen + Skinner also, but the same team was very good in front of Smith (I believe like one of the top 3 or 4 teams in the NHL from game 10 of last season onwards when Smith returned).
They need a younger version of Smith. D is just shuffling deck chairs if the goalie is going to keep allowing back breaking goals against.

Okay goaltending is issue #2 having a dcore that can defend both ends of the ice is key you can make a 1b look like a superstar with the right dmen in front of him. Fix the d then worry about goaltending

Barrie led the league in scoring for dmen last year and is making 4.5, sorry for a team needing a powerplay quarterback he has value. Now Ari may not need one of those.
