Series Talk: ECSFs Discussion - All The Smoke Edition - Panthers Trailing 0-2

They need to win four games to move on, not two.
i remember these being posted vs every team we beat with the meter in favor of our opponent, never cared for this at all

PK has been solid, PP has been ok and better than last year thankfully

Our 5v5 play may look good but its not producing enough and were bleeding breakaways like mad. Were getting obliterated in the circle, Leafs were 60% in the dot.

Leafs have talent and are taking advantage of our mistakes.

2 straight games of giving up 4+ goals, our team and defense should be better than that, even if bob is being ass. f***in oilers got to game 7 of the finals with skinner and we cant protect bob on his bad nights?

Leafs blocked like 25 shots to our 8 and boxing us out for rebounds. Theyre playing to protect their goalie well it doesnt matter if were in their zone for 90% of the game with them playing like that and then one bad change and one breakaway boom, goal against.

You speak the truth my friend. If they don't tighten up the D they don't have a chance.

hopefully we can chalk it up to ekblad being out and in of the lineup and now with some continuity they can get their shit together, but may be too late at this point but ill wait till elimination to bury this team.

If reino and swaggy can turn it on and our defense goes back to what it was i dont see us losing a game, but until its seen its gonna be a short series not in our favor

Been a big Bob supporter, and I will not dismiss the miscues on D, but Bob has given up 9 goals on an expected 5 difficulty. He needs to be better and we need to bury our many chances.

i still stand by he got injured game 4 vs the oilers

Maybe goin thru another injury again? Not like we have stolarz/knight to back him up
Vanecek is ok but not someone i ever wanna see in net

Tbh he wasnt all that impressive (by his standard) vs tampa but he did make some incredible saves.

Also worryingly is maybe at his age now its just his body giving out

This really has been the difference. I've always been a huge Bob supporter even through the dark days and of course the defense can be better, but Bob has been terrible.

Score 7 goals in two playoff games and we should at worst be 1-1.

This series is far from over. But we need to show the same intensity and desperation we showed against Tampa last series. And we need to be smarter and stronger on the puck because we’re letting Toronto win way too many faceoffs and puck battles.

And us fans have to stand by them and not pack it in when things aren’t looking good. We’re Florida Panthers fans we spent 25 years seeing things not go well with this team. We stuck with them through all of that crap, we can give them our best through this as well.

I’m thoroughly enjoying the pearl clutching across the main boards, TSN, and – God help us – Reddit over every minor bit of contact the Panthers make.

It’s May. Welcome to the playoffs.

McMann pulled a full WWE finisher on Bobrovsky in the first period and folded him like lawn furniture, but you won’t hear a peep about that. In fact, you’ll never see a clip of it again.

As it should be.

We just have to remind ourselves of what this team did 2 years ago against BOS when we were down 1-3 against the best regular season team ever. You can never count our guys out, at any moment. A little bit of puck luck here or there, Bob with 1 save more at a crucial moment and we are right back in this.

It's possible we get kicked out in this series. Would not be the end of the world. But we should believe in this guys up to the last second of each series clinching game.

If this is the Bob we get moving forward into next season etc. That goalie problem we were going to have years down the line is arriving way sooner than Zito anticipated.

Bob has sucked but it's too early to say that. All goalies go through bad stretches whether through luck or otherwise. His just so happens to be coming at a very inconvenient time. His athleticism still looks to be the same, he's had some explosive saves. It's the shitty long bombs or straight shots that he should have that's been going in that's frustrating. But don't think it's an age thing, his movement seems fine.

The Bob we are seeing these last 2 games is the Bob we got pre-2023. It's honestly very weird. It's like he expired overnight.

Oh I agree, said so in the other thread. But that pre-2023 Bob didn't lack in the physical department, it was all mental (obviously, given his rebound afterwards). That's what it looks like to me today, its just lapses and goals that even an average goalie should stop, as the expected goals metrics illustrates.

He's moving fine, doesn't look like an age thing to me. Maybe he's sick? I don't know, but its more like mentally he doesn't look the same. Back to the first shot in fourgoalsky, really weird.

He isn't tracking pucks at all. It's crazy to see. A puck will go high and wide and it sometimes takes him a second or two to look in the direction the puck went.

Dude needs to lock in.

Game 1 he was definitely putrid. Game 2, arguably those first three goals were pretty hard to stop. You'd like to see a save on at least one of those, but great tip by Patches on the PP and then two really solid rush chances. He probably could have played the Domi goal better as it was Lorentz with the puck, but Bennett also sucked on that play coming back. The fourth goal was awful and should never go in. So basically he was an average goalie on three of those goals and a shitty goalie on the fourth.

Agree looks like his tracking sucks right now and his rebound control too, game 1 especially was bad.

Just show up, just win. No excuses.

You cannot freaking tell me we made Kucherov and Point look like amateurs in the Mongolian league and then next game 59 year old Max Pacioretty, who's lucky to be alive after what Chara did to him 20 years ago, is the next coming of Wayne Gretzky against us. Just wake the f*** up and show up. Everything else is pure noise.

So what’s needed, more or less in order of importance:
- Bob to be much better
- D to be better, especially odd-man rushes
- Swaggy to score a couple
- Reino to score a couple
- Tkachuk to heal faster
- Boquist to not play like his bro

I have zero faith that Bob will suddenly be better, Vanacek should start, it’ll help take away one Leafs goal at least.

D can get better but they need to not pinch quite as much as they’re doing and time their pinches much better.

Swaggy I have no idea except he needs to do like Frankie Goes To Hollywood.

Reino just needs to keep playing the right way.

Boquist needs to sit and watch.

Probably need to adjust the matchups

Barkov line vs Matthews line is fine
Any line Tkachuk is needs to against their 3rd or 4th line. Probably 4th as Tkachuk is slogging.
Put Lundell against Tavares

4th line
