Series Talk: ECSFs Discussion - All The Smoke Edition - Panthers Trailing 0-2

There’s an interesting thread on the main boards about colorados core underachieving over the past 5+ years and it’s reassuring reading hockey fans saying even one cup win is worth decades of failed playoff runs. I look at our success the past few season with two trips to the final and the hardware plus getting to 2nd round this year as a hell of an achievement. You could argue we have accomplished more with Barkov and forsling than mackinnon and makar.

We’ve been blessed.

We also have to realize these guys are human and the gas is probably running low. It’s just a shame the gas had to run low on Toronto lmao. Defense needs to be fixed next season and we need a backup plan for Bob.

I really don't think so. They've played well 5v5 but the defense hasn't had a chance to gel and Bob has sucked. Lots of bounces also going their way. It's been pretty even.

Score 7 goals across two games in the playoffs and we should be up 2-0 not down 0-2.

Absolutely. Fact is, even for a heavily favored team, the chance to win a series is probably like 70%. Doing that four times successfully in a row and it's like a 25% chance to win it all. Realistically at the start of any playoffs even the most favored team only has like a 15% to win the Cup. So yeah we've been blessed.

But...I want to win another

Winning a cup is so difficult in a 32 team league. Colorado haven't underachieved imo.

Win next 2. That’s all. Totally doable.
But they have to wake the eff up.
Like I said before the series started. This was Toronto’s SC finals. We have to look at it as well and so far they haven’t. Half assign it and still losing by 1 goal. Turn it up and we can turn this around.
Maurice needs to have a meeting with the team and tell them this is it. Toronto is hungry, are you going to fold up as the champs and walk away or are you going to show the true heart of a champion and be even hungrier.

Our second round starts Friday. Mark my words.

Win on lose doesn't matter much to me really, first playoffs I'm this relaxed and can't complain because we have been blessed plenty the past two years so I'm happy, I just wanna see good hockey from this group. Get the next one at home and we have something going for sure, it aint over yet.
100%, it's a long way from over. I'm fairly relaxed tbh gotten to see some great hockey last few years and culminated with a cup win. Anything extra is just a cherry on top at this point. It's extremely difficult to repeat in any sport without having a shortened season (COVID) to take advantage of. This was the first season that I watched under 30 games on TV, let alone in person. They will bounce back, they have too much pride to get outhustled the way they are.

No shame in it, Toronto's a good team. They take a lot of heat and most of it rightfully so , but they made improvements and are a quality playoff team now. Have to give them their due. Nylander, Marner, Matthews all playing well....

I think the D is good. I mean Schmidt needs to be replaced but our top 5 is still as good as any in the league. Have to re-sign Ek. Toronto has just done a good job of countering on our aggressive pinches. It happens. Not every series is gonna go your way. We could meet them again next playoffs and steamroll them. The playoffs are funny, as we all know . If anything, like you said, they might be gassed. Forsling kinda looks like he's hurting at times, even though he's still been very very good.

Thinking about it, this is probably the best thing. Idk if we could beat Edmonton or Dallas in the Final this year. Those teams look on a mission and we'd probably TRULY run out of gas in the Final, similar to Tampa in '22. We won a round this year, got to have some fun this postseason. Let this core get some rest, and recharge for another couple runs .

-Chucky will be healthy next season, hopefully.
-Samo will be a year more experienced, and now he has playoff experience
-Hopefully Swag gets his swag back
-Lundell and Luosty could get even better with another year
- Bob might be better next season with some rest

I mean if we get '23 Chuck back and playoff Swaggy, and Bob can get anything close to '23, I don't see who beats us next year.

Yup, and I think our future is better than Colorado's. They've lost a lot of pieces since '22. Plus traded away their top prospect Cal Ritchie to get Nelson .

This has been a weird year as a fan of this franchice.
I don't even care if we lose this year, the last 2 years have been so good, so fun. Nothing can hurt me lol.
And the Leafs fans aren't annoying this year, they've lost so much in recent memory and humbled on the way so don't really have the typical "let's make fun of the Leafs" - mindset this year..
But still, let's go Panthers!! (Bob needs to be better though)
