Mayers just chimed in about Bennett in the oilers/vegas pregame.

McLean asked what he thinks should be done and Mayers said Schenn should just get into Bennett’s head but not do much. Too risky in the playoffs. Save it for next year.

Instead the leafs should just put pressure on all the Florida d men and run them a bit.

I hope Schenn gets a chance to cleanly demolish Bennett lol
Feel better?

No chance, they are not playing good hockey. Those cinderella runs we see every now and then, the teams play structured hockey and even though they might not have been an elite regular season team, they really pick up the 5 on 5 play and play like an elite team in the playoffs. The skaters for Florida have been really bad so far apart from the Tkachuk line, there's been a couple soft goals from Samsonov and some incredible saves from Bobrovsky.

If Bobrovsky stays hot he can win them this round, but the brand of hockey they're playing won't win them the cup. Gotta pick up the 5 on 5 play big time, elite goaltending can only take you so far. Like the Habs run to the finals, at some point you'll need your skaters to outplay the opposing skaters, it hasn't happened so far.

Crazy what 2 months will do

Can't rebuild with Tkachuk and Barkov. They're too good to be a basement team, but don't have enough surrounding pieces to be a legit playoff team. No 1st's either to rebuild, their GM royally screwed them, said it last year soon as he made those trades. If they're actually going to rebuild you have to move Barkov/Tkachuk, obviously they just brought Tkachuk in long term so that's not the direction they want to head in.

For them to be successful they have 2 options IMO

Option 1) Full rebuild, includes selling Barkov/Tkachuk. Like I mentioned earlier, I doubt this is the path they'll take

Option 2) Sell some core pieces like Reinhart/Ekblad, but not for picks. Good young roster players or good prospects. A 1st is still going to be 3 years away from being an impact player

But what I realistically see happening is them being stuck in mediocrity for the next 3-5 years, borderline playoff team but if they make it they won't go very far. The trades last year completely crippled them. I don't see them being able to dig themselves out of this mess unless they go with option 1, which involves completely blowing up the roster, including Barkov/Tkachuk.

Hi!

I don't put any weight in the CBJ series it was a joke tournament.

Shoulda beat the Habs for sure I'll give you that.

[Toronto] Would destroy the Panthers.

What? Odd response, being that I’m not the one hoping injury on a guy. And yes, I’m ok. You?
Who’s wishing injury? I said clean. I hope he’s drilled cleanly all game.

You can judge me all you want. Whatever makes you feel good about yourself

Pretty weird that all the games in the second round have been just an absolute drubbing. No close games at all. Oilers are up 5-0.

who should replace Giordano? might as well put in kyle clifford instead of simmonds for some retribution. dirty play by benett

Florida shouldn't even have made it this far with the defensemen they have.

I have missed their games. How are they playing stylistically and how are they beating teams with those defensemen? Shit is crazy.
You didn't watch any Florida Panthers games this year did you. Everyone looks at the names on paper and decides to form an opinion. Go back to sleep.

Barkov's goal should have been stopped.

Samsonov has played well this year.

But getting outplayed by Bobrovski is what SHOULD be happening, considering Samsonov is a $1.8 million salary cap hit and Bobrovski is a $10.0 million salary cap hit.

When the salary cap hit difference is this big, then the team with the $10.0 million salary cap hit 100% needs to have their goaltender significantly and noticeably outplay the $1.8 million goaltender on the other end of the rink.

Florida has 0% chance of winning this series if their $10.0 million goaltender is outplayed by the other team's $1.8 million goaltender.

What's Toronto's chances to win series if this keeps up?

Bennett just takes it to another level in the playoffs. Love to have him on the Leafs.

Bennett and Tkachuk were consistently the only guys who looked like they gave a shit when Florida was floundering down to the bottom of the standings in December.

I said it then, I'll say it now: If Bill Zito trades Sam Bennett, you're gonna see me on the news.

But how? Do they play that game at all.

Only run Leafs forwards know is run to bank draw out money

Genuinely curious how Florida comes out tomorrow.

They were very effective game 5 against Boston after 2 days off between games.

Game 2, the team was on their last legs and were visibly slower. Yes credit to Toronto, but you'd be kidding yourself if you ignore the fact Florida was tired.

They had been on the road since Saturday, flew straight Toronto after game 7, and have been playing every other day since game 5 against Boston. And the Boston series was very taxing as heavy hits were being thrown both ways.

Guess we will see.

Toronto has nearly 2x the high danger scoring chances as Florida so far in this series. Florida leading is a combination of Bobrovsky playing the best hockey of his life, and Samsonov playing some of the worst. That muffin by Barkov should not have went in and everyone knows that. I could have stopped that, as could have most of the posters on this site.

Leafs are heavily favoured to win Game 3 and I think when it rains it pours. If Toronto comes out and dominates and scores, then we might have regular Bobrovsky trying to stop an onslaught. He played the best 2 game stretch of his career, can he keep it up? I doubt it. Scoring early will be important because Bobrovsky is a huge momentum goaltender - when he's bad, he's awful. If he's confident, he can be one of the best goalies in the game.

The major difference is going to be Samsonov though. Florida can't score every time they touch the puck. He can't allow bad goals and has to at least stop some decent chances. The most important thing is - stop the routine saves. If you allow a weak goal, the team plays tight around you. Even if you make 5 great saves after - the team can't trust allowing shots on you. It's much better to just stop the routine shots and then allow the high danger chances - that way the team can at least trust you and not worry about collapsing on every shot.

If Samsonov bounces back - Leafs can win in 6. If he's going to allow a goal every decent shot (and some not-so-decent shots), the series is over.

Post the 5 v 5 stats. Unless you really think Leafs will continue getting 80% of the powerplays.
