FWIW, I didn't hate Luke's play selection there, every other Devil was covered and he didn't want to lose possession. You want him to be sure it goes through though, the execution wasn't 100% there.

I've been really happy with Luke's first playoff game so far. He's been very good, poised and hasn't crumbled under the Canes' forecheck. Love to see it. Only 19 still. Sky's the limit with him and Nemec.

That’s a tough one. Ironically enough I think in his mind the “safe” play is that pass - I’m a little surprised he didn’t try to turn it back and skater the puck there.

Obviously in the playoffs up 5-1 the play is just get it deep, but part of growing is making mistakes and learning from them.

Overall good. Luke is excellent. It wasn't the first time he made a cross-ice pass like that and hopefully a habit that will be cleaned up. Besides the refs literally awarding Carolina a cheap goal, Devils looking good. I would probably feel better with Schmeeeeeeed in goal but it is what is and VV better come through in the 3rd. That is all.

I’d jump on Vitek or Schmid if they made a stupid puck handling error too. Or Severson or anyone else who would actually make that kind of pass in a 5-1 game with them looking for breakaways

It's one thing to criticize one single play. It's another to say a guy who looks as good as he has "looks green".

Yeah, obviously at 5-1 you want to get it in deep, and he'll learn that, but I didn't think the play was egregious when all the other guys on the ice were covered.

For the record, the call on Dougie was bullshit anyways. Nice job by Dougie to get back tbh, it was a clear stick lift.
