you’re allowed to hit people close to the boards…. just can’t shove them face in.
Actually, by the rulebook, you cannot hit players in such a way that they are thrown into the boards without being able to properly brace themselves. That usually means they are more than a feet away. There is a separate rule for checking from behind.

You can literally hit someone in the chest, and it can be called boarding if the receiving player is thrown against the boards violently. That's the rulebook.

I couldnt tell if that Carolina player had a beard or just his hair wrapped around his face.
