Schmid split his time between NJ and Utica. His numbers are better with NJ. He's a big guy. Brodeur showed up long long ago in a somewhat similar situation.

Personally I think Vanecek is a good goalie but he's not that special. I've heard that they look at Schmid maybe as their goalie of the future. They have another kid Nico Daws who might have something to say about that.

One thing the Devils might really want to do is stay out of the penalty box. The Rangers have been shredding their PK. Guys like Fox, Kane and Panarin are high IQ elite puck movers. Zibanejad ain't far behind on that and has a cannon shot and then Kreider has just owned the front of the net in the first two games.

The second unit is pretty dangerous too especially if Fox stays out with them. A big deal for us is when our third and fourth lines get the puck in deep and start banging and cycling. The Devils so far have had a major problem with that.

We need this to be over in 4 or 5 if we actually want to go far. A 7 game series would be a disaster. The additional benefit would be minimizing the playoff experience the Devils get. I think we benefitted from having to play 20 games last year in terms of experience for this year.

Yeah winning in 5 or less helps quite a lot. Less games for players to get hurt. More time for players to get over minor injuries. The trick then is to come out in the next series ready to go in game 1. That doesn't always happen.

Looking at the Rangers if someone's knocked out of the lineup their replacements are Harpur, Hajek, Brodzinski or Leschyshyn which is a significant downgrade. I actually thought Harpur played pretty well for us all in all but it would be like a Braun like replacement. The more games thought the more chance someone really gets banged up.
 
Some might remember but I felt the rangers should have drafted Schmid in 2018. I thought we did need to draft a goalie. He was sitting there I thought he was the best goalie in that U18 tourney and would be avail later on. Instead we blew a 2nd on Lindbom because as usual clark fell in love with the hot player coming out of a junior tourney and Schmid went to NJ in the fifth round.

He’s a big good goalie but he’s raw and his east to west moves are still a question mark. Rangers won’t beat him clean but if they move the puck around like the love to do he’s going to be in trouble.

When Weekes went down and the Garden's PA announcer said "Now in goal for the Rangers, number #30, Henrik Lundqvist" I stood up in my seat in 425 and yelled out "WHO THE f*** IS THIS GUY?"

I sincerely hope this is not the same case with Schmid.

everyone played their roles perfectly the first 2 games. our high skilled guys made skilled plays. our defensive structure committed both games to shutting the devils transition down and making smart plays with the puck. the shit disturbers were all over the devils shout out to vinny trochek, the 3rd/4th lines, and trouba/baby trouba.

just keep doing all that!

This needs to be the playoff game we’ve waited a very, very long time for. Go up 3-0 in an early series and try to end it quick.

MSG will be an absolute zoo. Keep these kids shook, especially the kid goalie. Test him early and often. Pressure is going to be IMMENSE on the entire team, especially Schmid.

Make a statement tonight. This is the game to rip their f***ing heart out. Do it with extreme prejudice.

I mean, what kind of message is this sending to the team? This hasn't been Vanecek's fault at all. Mixing up the lines, again. Changing the goalies. Screams that the coach isn't confident in the team and I doubt that's lost on the players.

Bad, bad coaching.

Trouba's hair is actually pretty impressive

If the Devils try to overcommit to Kreider on the PP, I have to think Zibanejad is gonna have a party tonight.
