Laf is the only player on this roster that has that kind of mentality, and he's still just a baby.

It's not terribly uncommon. It just requires extremely limited usage of the third pair. Plenty of teams have done that this year. NSH does it a lot. COL did it all the time when MacDermid was in on D and played 5-6 mins. 5 D is extremely common as it happens all the time when a dman gets injured in the first period. Here's a 5D game - L.A at FLA. Weegar got huge mins. The other 3 main guys all got 20-25 which is perfectly reasonable. The 5th guy got limited minutes.

I find it equally scary to refuse to think outside the box and to think teams must play 12/6 because it's always been that way.

If your 6th is THAT BAD, then yes......play 5 D, But.....if you lose 1D to injury, then you better have a back-up plan. Like we had w/Smitty.

Man, the playoffs really wear me down. I'm not even excited for the game tonight - just tense and anxious. A win tonight will probably bring more relief than anything. Then maybe I can go back to being amped up for Game 5.

Lmao, this describes me perfectly as well. I'm not even excited leading up to games, just anxious and negative. I care way too much and honestly I think I care more than half the team does and that's not meant as an indictment of them, I'm just a sicko I guess.

Maybe I'd feel more confident or excited if I was confident in what this team is or what they would bring but there's such variance to what version of the team we're going to get every night.

I think the 2012-15 teams were more palatable because by then we had the fully formed playoff version of Hank who knew he had no margin of error and needed to be perfect so it really always felt like we could win every game 1-0 if needed. As good as Shesterkin has been this season and as much as I like him and think he's amazing, I don't feel that same way about him yet.

It's been a surprisingly quiet series from Trouba. It'd be nice to see him get involved. He's been steady but we've seen him come up big in these type of games before.

I'd like to see him along with Kreider and Zibs, set the tone.
