Ranger 1st PP McLeod boarding 2 shots

2nd PP Graves interference O shots

3rd PP Bratt interference 3 shots

4th PP Meier interference 0 shots

5th PP Graves high stick O shots

Zibanejad had 4 of the 5 PP shots from basically the same location in the high slot. Panarin had the only other shot of the 5 shots on 5 PPs.

Kane-Kreider who previously combined for 4 goals and 3 assist - 7 points on the PP in the first two were held shotless by the Devils EXCELLENT PK.

Seemed like a noticeable improvement to standing up at t he blue line and wrecking their entries.

One more win?

I'm pretty sure last night guaranteed that, even if he gets blown up the next two games and we lose in 5.

That's if what happened in game 82 didn't already guarantee it.
It’s pretty damn clear that Ruff/management have moved on from MB. Most important game for the organization since last playoff appearance and they go with Schmid over Blackwood ( and rightfully so).
They still want to keep Blackwood around for this playoffs in case of injury , but it’s clear that he is #3 in the depth chart and I think a distant 3rd. He just proved too many times that he is not consistent enough to be relied on. He was outplayed numerous times by Schmid.
Ya , every once in awhile Blackwood will have a good game , but those are way too few and far between. Just cannot have that in a goalie. Especially a starting one .

Hughes on the powerplay where he plays as the top left side point guy is where he is at his best. He's scored that type of goal from last night numerous times the last 2 years. He somehow manages to be able to get down close to the faceoff circle once he freezes up the forward on the pk that is covering him. They kind of take away the passing lane or the middle of the ice but he glides in and gets a quality look/shot. Would like to see him continue that.

Schmid was definitely A+

Bahl showed he belonged in the Playoffs with how he's played. (I agree with the A grade)

I wish he would have ragdolled that shrimp Panarin to the ground when Artemi tried playing the tough guy.

Bratt gets a B+ for showing up (finally) and getting two helpers including the Game-winner in OT. He would've gotten a higher grade if it were not for some bone-headed turnovers earlier on that did not endear him to many here. LOL

(oh and that interference penalty that some got on him for? THAT WAS A GARBAGE CALL by the refs. The Rags player purposely skated right into him)

Nico was a friggin' Warrior and Loved that he had (I forget who that Rags player was) his hand around that Rags player's throat after he cross-checked him(Nico). I give him an A for AWESOME.

Timo was throwing his weight around but once again....too many penalties. He gets a solid B-.

Jack unfortunately was fighting it all night and was getting knocked around like a pinball. Aside from the goal, he was having a tough time of it just about all night. Grade : B (I would've given a B- but that goal was so huge at that point, it bumped up the grade)

At this point I think we can't load up PP1. Looked like on the goal we replaced Meier with Palat in front of the net and it paid off. I'm all for Meier on PP2. He has not really adjusted well to our system on the PP.

The fact that he stayed in the lineup over Sieg's is a good indicator of the faith level the Devils have in him.

I agree that Palat has been crappy but I feel he is still not right after his surgery. Older players take almost a year after that type of injury before they are 100%.
I want to give him the benefit of the doubt for now.
I actually thought he at the very least was hard on pucks and won a lot of dirty area battles. And I suppose his screen was pretty important on the Hughes PPG, despite the fact it isn’t exactly some unbelievable feat to stand in front of another human being to block their view.

While I wouldn't say they were as bad as they were in g1, g2, they were still bad Schmid was just really really good.

I'm inclined to believe it was cuz the rangers were getting tired rather than the devils doing anything special. It's probably extremely mentally draining for them to defend like they've had to.
The Devils were definitely trapping and playing counter attack hockey for the first time. Now it’s a question of if they have the mental discipline to carry it out.
