So just to get this right, because there was a questionable call on Stutzle that means the Sens didn't play undisciplined hockey. Right on....

IDK, there were no penalties taken by either team in the first period. I don't recall any egregious missed calls for either team. It was 2-1 Toronto after the first, with the shots 13-5 in favour of Ottawa. Ottawa had given up two big chances that both resulted in goals. You want Ullmark to get at least one of those, but allowing Marner in on a breakaway isn't on the goalie.

I'm struggling to see any significant change in how Ottawa played to start the second period, except they ended up getting called for three minor penalties in three minutes. It wasn't like the game was out of reach and then ottawa started running around doing dumb stuff.

It was a 1 goal game and then after the powerplays it's 4-1 before the 10 minute mark of the second. The rest of the stuff that happened in the third you can say was undisciplined, but the turning point of the game was the three penalties to start the second period.

Why don't you look up the definition of "fan"? Oh my God. Are fanatics centered/ rational people who show no emotion? A fan is fundamentally the opposite of what is being described here. I guess people will argue anything huh?
I guess they will - seems like you're arguing that fans by their very definition must be irrational people.

The definition you're using for fanatics is typically reserved for religious zealotry, not sports fandom.

What's the over/under on Leaf dives tonight?

The funny thing is if you think the other team is diving the solution is not to crosscheck and hit players from behind.

Instead, the Sens strategy is instead to have Giroux and Tkachuk posted by the refs all game while they continue to commit illegal plays.

By definition, what the Sens are doing is against the rulebook. You got to adapt to the refs sensitivity to call the rulebook, not the other way around.

You cannot hit a player from behind. You cannot crosscheck a player in the face. You cannot crosscheck a player into the boards (or at all). You cannot high stick a player in the face. These are all rules that are in the rulebook. If the refs are calling the game by the book, stop committing infractions. The Sens seem to have this superiority complex thinking the refs need to ref the game the way they want, instead of that they need to follow the rulebook.

It was one sided in that they called the sens penalties but not the Leafs penalties.

Also, I quite clearly just said "if things go back to average, Ottawa should get a lot more PPS than Toronto the rest of the way"

The leafs kept giving cross checks to Sanderson and Chabot all game and didn't get called. They would go on the forecheck but not be able to catch Chabot or Sanderson who was pealing away from their hits, so they would reach to make contract with a crosscheck.

Ridley Greig gets tripped...no call.

Stutzle carries the puck and gets wacked in the hands...no call.

I'm not saying the sens didn't commit infractions...it's that they are weak and not typically called in the playoffs, and when the Leafs did the same thing, weren't called.

That's one sided officiating.

But either way, that isn't the point. The point is, if things revert back to average. Sens get 8 or 9 more powerplays than the Leafs the rest of the way. Watch out if that happens if reffing goes back to normal, and not one sided like game one.
Why would you assume the rate for the regular season and the playoffs would be the same ? Way different standard historically in the playoffs ; especially given a few Sens have deserved reps for going down rather easily ( the irony I know ) .The Sens need to find a balance . Be aggressive without being reckless. The better team that controls the play likely gets more pp ops . Sometimes taking a penalty is better than giving up grade A chances .

Thats the thing, there are examples of the refs not calling the game by the book.

The two immediate examples that come to mind:

Grieg gets taken out with a hit to the back of the head, right in front of an official - no call.

Brady gets speared in front of Stolarz - no call.

There's video of both plays, it's not like these things didn't happen. The refs didn't call the game by the book in those instances.

Saying it would have been 2-2 in the third is factually correct, but leaves out the vital point that even without penalties it would have been 3-2 45 seconds later.
Not if you take into account that the Sens second goal came on a delayed penalty, one that by Sens fans description would be a "normal playoff hockey" play.

Also, Sens need to be way better on faceoffs. They were horrible in the defensive zone (8/23), with Giroux and Pinto being especially bad (2/7) and (1/5) respectively. O-zone and neutral ice, we were OK, but had too many faceoffs in the def zone because of penalties, and that's where they got crushed.

Before Game 1, Brady Tkachuk had played 2 periods of hockey in the month of April. He couldn't even finish the last game of the regular season.

He's playing hurt.

Ottawa has other players, which may be news to our national media.

If he is good enough to play he is good enough to be held to his standard

Toronto didn’t get any quarter for all the sickness they had to go through with their stars last year. Didn’t get any sympathy for losing Tavares in the Montreal series and no one gave the leafs the benefit of the doubt with Matthews obviously battling something all year this year

Is there still something a little off with his wrist? I know he had a wrist issue a little while ago and when I've seen him play, something seems not quite right with his shot.

It has never been officially stated so all speculation, but from what I have heard it is related to his shoulder.

The first two penalties were taken in the offensive zone when the Sens were forechecking. The third penalty was taken on the PK. Prior to the first Stutzle penalty, the shots were 15-6 for the Sens. None of the penalties had anything to do with giving up a grade A chance. They were borderline calls that went against the Sens when they had been doing a good job at carrying the play. The two goals were an odd-man rush and a breakaway. The sens do give up a lot of rush chances, but it wasn't like they were getting caved in. Rather they were down a goal in a game where they were getting lots of chances. It was 2-1 before the three penalties that basically ended the game.

We think it’s probably his core/back most likely.

He mysteriously went to Europe to see a specialist earlier in the year and his shot has been lacking all year.

It is said to be something that he won’t make worse by playing but we assume he needs some kind of treatment in the off season.

Bottom line is that we don’t know a thing
