Post-Game Talk: ECQF Game 2: Rangers @ Capitals 5/4/13 - Lundqvists 0 - Capitals 1

Lundqvist's goal support in the playoffs, career:
GP - 58
GF - 121
GF/G - 2.08

He has his good and bad moments, a lot more good games of course, but there's no way you can win the Cup with those numbers.

And I thought Luongo had it bad, that's even more atrocious.

lol.

This is just ridiculous. If Hank wants to add to his legacy, go sign with another team like the Blues or Blackhawks. Maybe even the Islanders and Penguins as they are able to score goals. I'll dread the day he'll leave the Rangers, would be one of the saddest days in sports for me.

Our game in front of the opposition's net is non-existent. Very rarely do you find a Ranger driving to the net, and when they do, they don't stay there.

Any doubts watch the other teams play playoff hockey.

Tippets a good coach. But he is basically a better version of Tom Renney. He is all about tricky defensive schemes and the such.

Honestly, I am not sure he is the answer. My first choice for coach is still Mike Babcock.

Tippett was the reason the Dallas Stars went to the playoffs every year post lockout. Tippett is the reason why the Coyotes were relevant the last couple of years. Tippett has proven he can do a lot with absolutely nothing. Nash becomes a 100 point player in a Tippett system. Hell, look what Tippett did to Turco, Mike Smith, and Bryz. Give Tippett Lundqvist, Nash, Stepan, and Callahan and he will be licking his chops at the awesomeness of his situation.

I feel obliged to point out that scoring is typically lower in the playoffs, for most if not every team due to the style of play. Also, the backups never start.

This team at ES cannot score goals in the PO's as we have seen. That's why having a decent PP is paramount in the playoffs.
It's jaw dropping that the team practiced the PP extensively before the start of the series but Torts comes out and says the team is too stagnant, it reflects poorly on whoever led the PP practices.

It's still perplexing to me why Brassard was demoted to 4th line duty, and Boyle was promoted to 3rd line.

Torts believes he can grind out victories. I disagree and last year proved that that style will eventually catch up with the the team.

Having said that, if they win the next 2 at home, the series are back on.

Bourque played 20 years in Boston and was dealt at the trade deadline. He played the rest of that season and resigned for one more year. He didn't leave Boston as a UFA.

And he asked for the trade because he knew he wasn't winning a Cup in Boston.

Ehh, the series will be over monday when Washington scores first. This team has no offensive confidence right now and are probably going to slump their way to being swept.

I don't think you guys are as bad as some are insinuating. Yes, you have some holes and key guys are injured (Staal, Clowe) but you got a horrible draw against an extremely potent Washington team. That was just not the matchup you wanted at this juncture.

Always good to see your posts.

Have to disagree, these 2 games have been a microcosm of the season.

For his own sanity, I hope Lundqvist asks for a trade soon rather than later. They should be able to get a good return. There needs to be a system philosophy change here

I got into a fight with my Dad earlier over the state of our defense. Sorry, but I just don't think they're very good at all this year. It's extremely disheartening.

Last year, I went into games with the mentality that, "Okay, with our system and goalie, it will take 6 guys to **** up for the other team to score". Now it seems like its ALWAYS on Hank and it only takes an error in judgement by him.

If this team is a metaphorical boat, then its a wooden dingy and Hank's pulling the rope and the team throws him life rafts made of hand grenades.

I don't think our D is bad, I think the system is terrible. When you have a goalie like Hank you don't need your dmen sprawling all over the ice trying to block shots. The system is too passive in the dzone, watch our forwards in front of the other teams net and they take a beating...we don't do that.

I've said this before other teams pay no price in our zone, but our forwards do in the other teams zone.

I'd rather Lundqvist ask for the coach to be fired. I'm sure an unhappy Lundqvist would get some changes. Messier was able to get Roger Neilson out. I know Lundqvist isn't Messier, but I'm sure he has a lot of pull in the org.

Lundqvist isn't going to demand a trade, I've seen no indication that he wants to leave NY at all.

If he were to go anywhere, it might be in a Ray Bourque-esque career twilight move, or perhaps to New Jersey of the Isles if he felt they had a better shot at the cup (unlikely)

Sather will give him another contract making him, once again the top paid goaltender in the league.

Messier is still with us in management, isn't he? I wonder if HE is as tired of this BS as we are.

All this "boohoo lundqvist should sign with another team/ask for a trade" is complete BS. Has he played great and the team let him down? yes. But hey how about not letting up 3 goals in the first ten minutes of game 5 vs the NJD. how about getting a better glove hand or coming out a little more to stop a deflection. They win and lose as a team. Its not Lundqvist vs the Rangers. Everyone needs to pick each other up. Unfortunately, 95% of the time its lundqvist masking other deficiencies.

If he leaves, then to me he's just another opposing goalie. I'm a fan of the team and loyal to the team (stupidly) ,not individual players

Both games were winnable. hagelin scores on that breakaway, the 5 on 3 scores and it's a different first game.
Nash scores on the semi breakaway or the PP scores in OT and it's a different story.
Hank is absolutely correct, the team was right there in every game, they just need better finish.

I think we'll win at least one of the two home games. With a little luck, perhaps both. I would be very surprised if we were swept.

Look at the two team's home and away records. It's the Rangers record at home that makes me optimistic for the next two games.

Problem is, it's very difficult to win 3 straight games. No matter how well we do, I think the best we end up is down 3-2 and having to win two straight. I'll give us a 15% chance to win the series.

I'd agree with you except for the fact if they get untracked offensively they are capable of going in 3 or 4 game winning streak.
This is still a winnable series. if they lose 1 at home however ...

In order for us to even have a shot at this series, we need to win both games at home... Like my dad was saying, it's not over until you've played at Home. The Blues were up 2-0 in their series.. Went back to LA, and boom, series is now 2-1.

Now, I didn't watch that game, but I'm using that as an example that the series is only 50% (at most) progressed after the first two games... The home games for the lower seeded team are also critical

I don't understand how there are people on here that I had to argue with because they insisted that we played well in game 2 and had all sorts of chances. What the hell did you and I watch compared to some of these other people? I think you said it though: objectivity. SOmepeople just lack the ability to put things in perspective and be objective. People do lack that for loved ones and sports teams. A lot of times they confuse objectivity for hating the team though and being "bad fan"

Very true, any fan should be able to call their team out when they're not preforming. I hate this notion that a fan should never question or call out their team. Should I be happy with our play the last 2 games? Don't hand me **** and call it a rose.

Sorry Mr. Knows everything but they did play a good game, better than game one. They had a lot of chances? Idk about that but their overall game was better.

Did you see him play today? He can't steal a game if his team scores ZERO goals.

Look at the Caps. They became a heavy defensive team but their main weapon is pinning you in your zone. Look what happens when they have the puck in our zone - it's scoring chance after scoring chance.

Now, look at the opposite. When we had it in their zone, it's just a mindless cycle behind the net until the puck is coughed up with 0 sog.

That's my point, he stands on his head and we can't even score ONE to win it. This strategy doesn't work, that was my angle. Especially in the playoffs when he clearly hasn't been spectacular over the course of his career.

This.

I must've watched a completely different hockey game.

They played WELL in game 1 and like crap in game 2.
