I mean, anytime you lose your #1 and 2 it's a big deal. We've seen LaFontaine. I'm still a little concerned he's even dressed. But shit happens, and they're still winning with Pyotr. The Canes are the best defensive team in the NHL. That also plays into how we're still winning with our third string goalie. Not discounting Pyotr. He's been solid enough, and made some key saves.

It might be different when he starts a game, but it was noticable last night that, when Kotch first entered the game, the Canes shut shit down. Reminded me of the Ayres game. Boston wasn't getting anything easy until Kotch felt 100% into the game.

Absolutely. Credit to them for pivoting on a dime and adjusting to a totally unexpected scenario in the middle of a period. That's one of those little things that a lot of teams flat-out cannot do, for the same reason that most teams would have lost the Ayres game by 8.

I said it before and I'll say it again, I'm oddly comfortable with Koch in net. However, if he starts game 3...I have no idea what to expect from him in that environment.

His caliber of play is an actual concern. I feel confident that he can win any given game, because he's not a bad goalie, but he's a significant step down from Andersen/Raanta even under the best of circumstances. His combined save% with the Canes is a .887 and that's with the team giving him a ton of support.

What I'm not worried about is the environment getting to him. If anything, he seems like a real gamer who feeds off emotion. The fact that he took a jab at an NHL superstar in his first playoff game, then stared down the other netminder like he was ready to fight... with no backup goalie...

Man, very late to the thread, but what a great game to actually be present for last night. My son and I were up in 334 and it was rocking....old and young alike. Sure the game got out of hand, chippy, even dirty (personally, I think Pasta should have been suspended for his running of Raanta, but not going to happen, superstar and all). But it was a great one to watch in person.

I haven't read through this thread, but with all of that said, I've got to say, a small minority of Canes fans posting on the main board GDT were just simply arrogant assholes. The folks on this board are much better than that; but posting stupid shit like "Boston Sucks" and being antagonistic for antagonisms sake is juvenile and something I'm guessing the vast majority of us on this board don't want to be associated with. We have always been something of a classy bunch of lovable losers and then gracious winners. We've won folks over with our humor, albeit sometime bitingly sarcastic, but humor nonetheless. So quit with the personal attacks and idiocy. You're giving this fan base, one that has cultivated broad goodwill on HF Boards, an unneeded and an unwanted black eye. Simply put, we're better than that.

It was one of the most fun games at PNC in a long time. The place was rollicking almost the entire game. And it should be said, the building is not getting invaded the way it used to. That was a 95% Canes crowd.

Unfortunately, this is part of the evolution of having a contending team. It's why Bruins fans have the reputation they do, as well.

? Are you referring to Kochetkov?

His regular season SV%: .902 (3 game sample)
His playoff SV%: .938 (1 game sample)
His NHL SV%: .914 (4 game sample).

I'm... Not sure those numbers are right. I have Pyotr with a .902 in the regular season and his numbers last night had him in the .930 range.

Has anyone seen Tom Dundon lately? I feel like we haven’t heard a peep from him in ages. Wonder if he’s been at the playoff games?
He was in Golf cart with Bettman and Waddell the other night.

He's definitely a lot more "lowkey" I guess than I thought he would be when he bought the team. His twitter account is pretty dormant and he seems to let Don handle all the PR stuff. Nothing wrong with that though.

Koch is both competent and has charisma which IMO makes that team want to play harder in front of him.
Goading Marchand into that stupidly blatant penalty given the history between him and our franchise (just remember his antics against Williams in 2019) is the exact kind of play that will have an entire team willing to run through a wall for you.

I have said it all along and believe it more with every game he plays. He is going to make it extremely difficult if not impossible for us to not have him at least being our AHL starter and first callup next year, if not outright backup.

WTF actually happened to him?
Wouldn't be surprised if his mask got pushed further into his face pretty hard.
A gloved hand is much more mass then a puck.. And the give and resistance is different too. The goalie mask is meant to stop pucks It would not work as well against a basketball. (For instance)

But as to what happened? Might have tweaked the leg that cramped or something.. /shrug maybe after the season
