Does anyone know if there's an android app that gives score alerts when it's in your pocket? So for instance, you can configure it so if the Rangers score it vibrates once, and if the Caps do it vibrates twice?

This year's Rangers are not a tough team. Last year's were kind of tough--not anything extraordinary. It's an element that helps in the playoffs. Last year Ottawa, Washington, New Jersey all had big wingers who could grind all night long. Eventually the attrition wore our team down. Finding players that are big, tough and can play is not always an easy thing. Here--sometimes people just want to find more offense no matter the type of player. Skill is a big part of winning but it's not enough on it's own. Look at what happened to Pittsburgh last year--and they're having problems again this year.

How to put together a team that has enough skill, enough defense, great goaltending, enough size, grit and youth and then there is depth--and then fit it under the cap and be a legit contender at the same time? It's a rubik's cube. Throw in the elements of lucky bounces and no or very few injuries. That's how you win a championship.

Just take away one element and the whole thing falls apart. Holding things together is another thing which is almost an impossibility.

I really hope Girardi steps up and knocks Ovechkin into next week like he did to Green last year.

The problem with Zucc is that the Caps are going after him, they keep messing with him behind the play. Looks like they're trying to put the hobbit out of action. But he can always run and hide behind Nash ;)

I just got a mental image of Zucc running to Clowe telling on them, and Clowe putting them all out of commission on the next Hit

I will take this idea and run with it.

It should be so easy to program, too, especially if you already have an app with scores. If not, I suppose you need to find a good API or do some sort of parsing on nhl.com or something, but even still. I just don't have enough time to start learning how to build applications for Android before a 7:00 test

Just have someone IM or SMS you updates. You must have a friend or someone who can hook you up

What happens when the Rangers score two in rapid succession and you think it's the Caps? Hope you're not a violent person! I kid, but for some people who absolutely can't take their phones out for whatever reason and are going based on that it would be funny. I know the GameCenter app on my iPhone is a bit delayed and sometimes notifications went off back to back.

Official Rangers app. Or, use Google Home and add the Rangers as your fav. NHL team

Two goals in rapid succession and the Rangers :laugh:

Well, the way I'd implement it would make sure that there's a sleep in between notifications. So maybe have it as a running process that takes goals and puts it into a queue. Every 10 seconds or so a thread checks the queue and peeks to see if there's an element. If there is, it pops the element off and... what the hell am I doing, this is a hockey discussion forum. Sorry.

just take your god damn exam

Yeah, that's what it's going to come down to unfortunately. But I can dream :)

You can program The Score app to notify you if either team scores, but I don't think they can give unique notifications.

That or varying duration on the vibe so it feels like Morse code up in your pocket. It's been awhile since I did any programming and nothing mobile, let's just say I'm ok with that. I'd much rather stick to the visuals.
