Pre-Game Talk: ECF Series Talk: Rat Bastards versus Boring Jerks

Good for Morrow.

He deserves a shot. To be honest, I was surprised they did put in Nikishin over Morrow in game 5 vs the Caps. He was the more obvious choice having played the Canes system all year, no language concerns and he wouldn’t have forced anyone on their off side.

Nikishin handled himself well, but personally, I think Morrow is the better Chatfield fill in for the time being, especially with last change.
Nikishin got that game to burn a year off his ELC. Period. We won't see him again unless there is serious depletion on the backend.

Nikishin seems way better defensively in my short viewings than Morrow is. Couch coach Discipline Daddy would easily put in Nikishin over Morrow. I'm surprised several of you would consider Morrow in first over Nikishin as Morrow was pretty terrible defensively in what I saw of him at the end of the year. Regardless, I trust Rod.

This could also be one of those little gamesmanship things to keep the Panthers guessing on how our D will look. I did wonder about that after game 5, where Rod made it apparent that Chatfield would play, and then Nikishin took the first rookie lap at the 11th hour to join the starting lineup.

Only if you missed the context on WHY Nikishin may be more prone to mistakes
Lol, I'm well aware of that context. I saw enough from Morrow in the regular season that I can confidently say I'm more worried about his mistakes than Nikishin's. And yes, that is taking into consideration boom's bad turnover in his debut. But neither really worry me much as the rest of the team is capable of making up for any mistakes they make.

I think given his age that year is burned regardless of whether he played a game or not.
Didnt they run Slavin?
Bennett knocked him out of game 4 but I want to say it was (perhaps surprisingly) a clean hit.

It was a clean hit, caught him with his head down, and I want to say it was in the 3rd period of Game 4, so the writing on the wall was already there

True, but you mentioned Freddie. For Slavin, it was at the end of Game 4.

But, I do expect Cats to target our D-men just like they did against the Leafs with the goal to intimidate us, make us play faster/make mistakes & ultimately wear us down which usually manifests later in the series.

I suspect they will go after our best/smaller players including Slavin, Blake, Stanoven, Jarvis, Aho & Ghost (I think JR too since they probably view him as soft). They will also target Svetch to hurt and/or goad him to take penalties.

OTH, KK (in particular since as 4C that's his role), Martinook, Staal, Robinson, Orlov, Walker, Svetch, Janky (if he plays) need to do the same to the Cats. They need to hit their D and also their key guys Barkov, Marchand, Forsling, Reinhart, Bennett, Rodrigues and Verhaeghe hard every time they touch the puck (please BB, hit them hard this series)

I'd add, if they run Freddie, then Canes need to do the same to Bob. IMO, Cats are dumb to play the run the goalie game because their backup in Vanecek is meh.

Edit: KK instad of TT...thx Slavinaway

Is TT supposed to be KK?
