Pre-Game Talk: ECF Series Talk: Rat Bastards versus Boring Jerks

Tough matchup for Carolina or anyone else for that matter. Canes got a hot goalie and a hot goal scorer in svetch, something they have lacked in previous runs. But Florida just looks primed for a repeat. Dallas looks like the only team that can take Florida down. I do think this will be a 6 or 7 game series. Canes been scoring from bad angles and throwing pucks from everywhere. Not gonna work on Bob. Florida unfortanatly gonna take it.

The Borg has done phenomenal work in general and with their pro scouting, and it’s been getting recognized throughout articles and podcasts especially this year given the offseason we just had.

That said, one of the bigger mistakes the Borg has made is that we basically gave Florida their 1D AND their current leading playoff scorer. “They never showed it here blah blah blah” I get it. Still is kind of wild.

Game 1 feels like a must win for us -- rested, at home, Florida with no rest following a 7 game series, need to get the ECF monkey off our back. Please let it not be a 4OT game.

I may try to go to games 3/4, depending on how the first 2 go.

If it goes 4OT and unlike last time we have the good sense to win it, that sets us up GREAT for the rest of the series…

I mean it's less about them "never showing it here" than about the context with both of those guys. Forsling was a 2014 5th round pick who couldn't make it with the Canucks, Blackhawks and us before finally finding his place in FLA. Eetu was always a solid prospect of ours and despite this hot run he's still just a decent middle 6 C at best. He was part of the Tro trade and you have to give to get. I think everyone would still make that trade and agree Tro is a considerably better player than Eetu.

No, it's the opposite of a mistake: it's that the talent development side of the org is so good that we can't utilize more than the very best fraction. Looking around the league, I have never seen so many ex-Hurricanes playing pivotal roles on other teams. I think they learn winning habits while they're here and bring those habits to other teams.

I agree with the phenomenon you're describing but cannot agree that we couldn't utilize Forsling or that he wouldn't be part of that very best fraction. Maybe you just call it a process that's working and an unfortunate outcome, fine. But seeing a bonafide 1D on another team that you gave away for free is always tough. Even tougher when he's the 1D for a team that's won a Cup and swept you the year before.
