it was 1 game.. rangers lost so expect adjustments.. panthers will try and react..

it's so early.. i expect florida to come out slow and lost... they sometimes do that... it's like they enjoy getting punched in the face a bit before re-reacting and winning a few in a row...

I really don't like the idea of doing that with a team as skilled as NY.

Friday will be interesting

It's not the Panthers fans!

It's who it always is.

I appreciate you guys, this has been a pretty smooth thread from the fanbase actually in it.
I’m sure when either Rempe or Bennett decide to do something dastardly then it’ll be a war online.

But I respect the Rangers as an opponent, and generally have had good interactions with NYR fans.

With that said, James Dolan annoys the hell out of me. He can piss off

Imagine being Laviolette and trying to figure out who match against Barkov. Do this you lose, do that you lose more.

Sweep incoming.

Florida, Stars, Oilers, Rangers seems the relative strength of teams. Rangers are weak because they don't show up all the time. So anyways that my Cup winner order. Oilers have to beat the Stars and hope the Rangers beat the Panthers. That's the Oilers, and Canada's, only chance at the Cup.

You can't count on Tronna.

They'll have to get past Dallas, who has 6 (Robertson, Oettinger, Pavelski, Harley, Suter, Smith)

Tell that to the back to back 2016 & 2017 Stanley Cup Champions

2016 Penguins (9 Americans, 8 with 23+ games played)
Kessel
Bonino
Cullen
Rust
Dumoulin
Sheary
Lovejoy
Cole
Bennett

2017 Penguins (10 Americans, 9 with 21+ games played)
Guentzel
Kessel
Bonino
Rust
Dumoulin
Sheary
Lovejoy
Cole
Hainsey
Ruhwedel

What a stupid take.
Crosby and Malkin carried the Pens. Kessel, Rust, Bonino, Guentzel and Dumo played well.Your D men other than Dumo are JAGS.

Trouba is better around the opponents net than he is around his own net. Always has been bad at D close to his net.

That’s a shitty way to lose. I was expecting the Rangers to get dominated but the three expected goals models I’ve looked at all give the Rangers a slight edge. If they can win Game 2, maybe there is still hope.

I’m frankly glad to see people just arguing over how exciting the game was lol.
I can tell you from a load of experience, expected anything means nothing

Boston gave a bigger fight than the Rags, I will prefer for the Panthers to play the same strategy, Rangers looked disenchanted and confused, their faces of despair on the benches showed how stunted they were being manhandled by the Panthers.
This is only game one and I do not expect the next game to be the same, they will make adjustments l, but I will say that any point in the game, never felt like the Panthers were about to cave, they were in control all the time.
Yep, Panthers are in that rarified air where they can beat you any way you want to play.

You said you can't win the more than 7 Americans. You said a stupid thing and got called on it, just take admit it and move on.

Also, Kessel was an absolute beast on that 2016 team, leading the team in scoring.

They are pretty good. But yeah, overly simplistic. The problem with expected goals is that they're not playstyle-agnostic. That is, expected goals are worth a different amount to different teams.

That's why it's very predictive for some teams, and a terrible predictor for others.

So the Rangers lost to the two time defending Stanley Cup champs last time they played in the ECF. That same team obviously made the ECF that year too. That Tampa Bay Lightning team did not have their collective ass kissed like the Florida Panthers last night. Seriously, the Panthers are good I get it. They played very good defense last night but listening to Subban and Messier you'd think we were playing a mix of the 1977 Canadiens and 1975 Broad Street Bullies. That was the most ridiculous bit of "analysis" I've ever seen. They were up 1-0 in a low event first period where neither team got much and the 1 goal was a soft goal. "Without Shesterkin it would be 4-0". And then spent the entire intermission kissing their asses. It was 1-0! Absolute clown show on ESPN. I guarentee that the Panthers have far more to give than what they gave offensively. And yet you'd think the gift from the gods Florida Panthers descended onto MSG and reinvented the game. Absolutely f***ing ridiculous.

It goes without saying that the team who scores more goals wins the game. But it doesn’t necessarily tell you anything about the game.

Four expected goals models gave the Rangers a slight edge in expected goals. That doesn’t mean they outplayed the Panthers or should have won, it just means they weren’t dominated.

Yeah and the 2023-24 Rangers have Kaapo Kakko in Kessel’s spot.

The Rangers just aren’t that deep. They have a few critical pieces but there are still parts missing. Adam Fox has been terrible this post-season which is a massive handicap.

I’m going to tell you that we went from a run and gun offense won the Presidents trophy 3 years ago and lost in the first round of the playoffs. Po Mo comes in and changed our scheme to a forechecking physical defense. With that an offense that is yes not exciting but still capable of great production. Ala last year we go to the Cup and this year it’s right at our doorstep.

Now who’s kidding who…This Panthers team is really really talented but plays within the system. Do you not think that everyone is not taking notice of a franchise that won nothing to one that is admired.

Call it what you want but if your a hockey fan you will not be sidetracked to call what the Cats do as boring…I call it genius !!

The thing with Dolan is that we can't really complain in the grand scheme of things when you see what happens with teams like Arizona, and Atlanta back in the day.

He spends what the cap allows him to, and it was a lot more before that. The team is extremely stable.

He is, however, a massive f***ing shitbag. And the ticket prices are too f***ing high. He could afford to cut them in half.

At least unlike other sports he doesn't increase prices in non-playoff seasons.
