Interesting how some feel the rangers played the better game and had more chance?. My dime store eyes saw total control by the cats to whom grinded a road win superbly. The cats were in 3rd gear perhaps. Rangers had no answer in their own zone. Did my eyes deceive me?

Idk how anyone can say that when the NYR went like 14 minutes without a shot on goal at one point and were kept to about 15 shots nearly 50 min into the game.

The mental gymnastics will get crazier and crazier as the series continues. They focused on playing certain guys extra hard and it will continue in game 2, hopefully with the same results.

Neither team played their best games, but it was enough.

To me this looked very similar to the last few games vs the Canes. Rangers get outplayed for long stretches but stay in the game. Difference is they didn't convert their chances and they had them, credit to Bob.

What's different than CAR is FL has more legit scoring spread out across 3 lines and they seem to generate or try and generate offense from the middle whereas CAR was a perimeter huck and chuck team. And like I stated earlier they are very physical on the forecheck and support the puck well.

Curious to hear what Rangers fans thought of Lavi flipping the lines around throughout the game, not something he usually does...?

FLA's forecheck gets a lot of attention, but its team defense that's most responsible for their playoff success.
Shhhhh don't tell them, Vezina nominee, least amount of goals allowed in the regular season, punishing pressure game in all 3 zones.

That wasn't even a very physical game, they play any and every style needed, if they put in Rempe, you know we are in their heads. Rangers D was hearing the footsteps all night.

The Rangers can not sustain getting outshot and hoping for PP's to bail them out every night like they did vs Carolina.

NYR's beat Carolina while getting mostly outplayed. I heard somewhere the Rangers were scoring on something like 13.7 percent of shots. h is unsustainable

Bob is going to stop an extra 1-2 of the Grade A chances every night that Anderson couldn't. Along with Florida having a great PK.

NYR will even score on a couple of those PP's in a game but you have to score more than 2 to win.

the game started an hour late and the ice was terrible! :naughty:

where do you find the offensive zone time stats?

sportsnet flashed it in the second period and it was 9+ mins for the panthers and only 5+ for the rangers. i'm sure the rangers added more time when they perked up in the third, but would be curious to see the totals and period breakdowns if someone knows where to find them

Rangers were awful game one. They looked slow and heartless. Not too sure they were ready for a tough club after their first two series were against weak teams.

Team defense doesn't get attention because the focus has to be either on individuals or top6/top4-dichotomy. As long as this series doesn't become the battle of special teams, the Panthers isn't losing this series.

I think both teams have another gear, and if you get to this point in the playoffs, you're not going to fold easily.

The biggest diff...
Previous series: Sheshterkin >> Andersen
and we know: Bobrovsky >> Andersen

This series: Bob ?? Sheshterkin

So far Bob > Sheshterkin, but that's only game one. I could also say Lafreniere > Sheshterkin though:wg:.
