Dude, so you got Bedard and another mid-round first? Score. Thank you, EHM AI!! :D

so as I said, the game crashed in the offseason before I had a chance to save it...

I have gotten back to the draft though, and have these offers for 1st:

L.A. Offer:

5th overall
28th overall
Matt Roy
Viktor Arvidsson

for

1st

Arizona offer:

Shayne Gostisbehere
2nd overall
61st overall

for

1st

My feelings are maybe try and see if I can't get either Byfield or Clarke out of L.A. instead of one of those other guys?

I'd definitely try to weasel out some higher end unsigned prospects from L.A. rather than take Arvidsson and Roy, but Byfield/Clarke would be a tougher ask.

The Arizona offer sucks, TBH. I play as the Coyotes so I know the pool pretty well. I'd definitely ask for 2OA and Cooley, or 2OA + 2024 1st + Maccelli/Lamoreaux.

one thing that has been a bit of a nagging concern of mine, although not a huge huge deal, is CHL teams releasing the rights to NHL-signed players.

If I sign a player out of the draft at 18, and that player plays his 18 year old season in the CHL, I hate it that sometimes seemingly randomly, his CHL team will just drop him... or not renew his rights for the 19 year old season.

in my newest save I picked up Hunter Laing again, he played his 18 year old season in Prince George, got 30 ish points in 60 ish games, and then they dropped his rights in August. I absolutely planned on him playing his 19 year old season in the WHL, but he had to play in the AHL instead... where he only got 15ish points in 60ish games.

I feel like because I gave him the ELC, I stunted his growth because I "Scared" his CHL team into letting him go... lol

Does anyone know how you can make a player uninjured using the EHM editor?

My new game has Mikheyev and Myers injured for 4 months for some reason.

They were injured IRL, but I probably need to shorten in. The starting injuries are in the extra_config.cfg file, you will need to open it with notepad.

The injury block for Vancouver is:

"INJURY" "Micheal" "Ferland" "Vancouver Canucks" "PERMANENT_CONCUSSION_3" -12
"INJURY" "Travis" "Dermott" "Vancouver Canucks" "CONCUSSION_2" -4
"INJURY" "Ilya" "Mikheyev" "Vancouver Canucks" "TWISTED_KNEE" -2
"INJURY" "Tyler" "Myers" "Vancouver Canucks" "ANKLE_LIG_SPRAIN" -4
"INJURY" "Phil" "Di Giuseppe" "Abbotsford Canucks" "ANKLE_LIG_SPRAIN" -3

Just delete the lines you don't want.

You MIGHT be able to remove the injuries in-game with EHM Assistant but not sure.

I wish this game had a bit more nuance to the players signing contracts, I've had 2 players in the last 2 years sign with other teams over under $1M, while having:

My team listed as their favourite club.
all 3 of their favourite staff are on our club.
we just won the Stanley Cup.

I know it's a little more basic than that, but it's frustrating watching your franchise centers leave over 800k... especially when the 1st one to leave joined the last placed team in the league...

like, would you rather:

13.5M per year, on a Stanley Cup Championship roster, with all your favourite staff

or

14.2M per year on a lottery team...

apparently every player in this game would rather the latter option.

not sure if this has ever been mentioned here before or if anyone else is aware of it but I've found a pretty niche way to make random prospects just a bit more random.

the game seems to do a check to make sure that a player's offensive and defensive roles add up to at least 20 and if they don't they'll be scaled up to be over 20, and this scales with player potential so a guy with a -15 PA could have his D/O roles set to 7/8 and end up at 12/14 at 110 PA and 14/17 at 190 PA. best case scenario on the roles ended up with 6 different sets of roles between the 110-190 range but a lot of them overlapped.

I'm not sure how mathematically its calculated which roles a player should get at what PA but it seems to try and keep the ratio between the two roles intact.

I've read this about 4-5 times now and my answer is I think you answered your own question. EHM is a pretty simple game dealing with a very finite number of attributes and points it can hand out. The game will auto-adjust whatever is set in the database when it needs to. We as DB creators lose almost all control over what we built once the game is started.

Owen Power at 34 years old just went absolutely off on his way to winning his 3rd cup. 27 points in 19 games without any of the OP offensive tactics, next highest point producer had like 20 and there was a point where Power had 15 points while the next leading scorer had 5...never seen a defence man produce that much in a playoff series without using the tactics ._.

I love when there's one cpu controlled team that just seems a step ahead of the rest of them and can make it competitive for you. Arizona tends to be one of those teams i've noticed, but in this case, Washington is setting themselves up in a huge way that I don't usually see cpu controlled teams do this late into the game (2040)

They recognized their window was over to compete and have gone full tank, trading away a top 10 d man in the league who is past his prime, and a #2 who has years left and is mid prime, and Ivan Miroshnichenko who is still a #1 LW. Normally when I see teams do this they trade them for such silly stuff just to get rid of them or don't trade them at all in the first place, but they got a HAUL. #3 overall pick from 2 years ago, first round picks, and multiple players drafted in the top 40 of the last few drafts.

I play so much of this game and really don't see teams embrace a full on rebuild like that later on in the game. It's really cool to see.

PSA if you started a new game between Nov 24 @ 11:53am EST and this morning you likely will get duplicate future prospects, this was an oversight on my part and has been fixed.

@ECK

Noticed in your DB that Quinn Hughes is mainly a RHD, but he's naturally a lefty who can play his offside (RHD)
You Nucks fans need to fight that out, I have been told by my two main Nucks guys he is back to his natural LD position this year, you can change it with assistant.

Has anyone figured out how to properly draft and develop a goalie?
Goalie futures seem pretty well broken still. They either suck at rebounds or recovery (or both)...and physical attributes. Not sure I've seen the game generate a goalie without at least 2-3 glaring weaknesses. If you don't get a goalie in the 1st round you're pretty much SOL. I've never found more than an AHL goalie outside of maybe 2nd round...unlike real life where they're pretty much a crapshoot and you're as likely to find a late-blooming UDFA as you are a 2nd rounder that turns into a starter

Are you playing a version with the PG? We pretty much have goalies nailed down and have guaranteed quality NHL goalies fairly frequently. Even on older TBL releases like what NTHL (online league I run) was based on all the top goalies were insane and PG generated. The game absolutely still sucks at creating even NHL backups of quality on its own, most of it is due to poor RNG but the core initial attribute spread is an issue.

Below are from a No Tactics league based on a Pivot version from 2019-20.

I've had decent luck with goalies. I do tend to draft them pretty high, though. Usually try to snag one in the first round when I have a few first round picks.

Not sure I've had ever had one ready right away. Always takes a year or two at least, and more than that most of the time. But I like this, feels pretty realistic.
