If NYR or DET get 8 points out of a possibility of 12, that will be pretty good for them. Maybe a tad optimistic even, with the way they have played lately. If that is the most they get, Montreal needs 3 points out of a possible 10 to stay ahead. So what’s the magic number for Montreal right now, 7?
Ie any combination of points gained for Montreal vs points lost for detroit or nyr
I think the number is 7If NYR or DET get 8 points out of a possibility of 12, that will be pretty good for them. Maybe a tad optimistic even, with the way they have played lately. If that is the most they get, Montreal needs 3 points out of a possible 10 to stay ahead.
It's not clinched, but if they lose it now, it would be a pretty big meltdown.
Right. If the others win everything, sure. I was making an approximation of a realistic possibility.I think the number is 7
If Montreal gets 7 more points they have 92, Detroit and nyr can only finish with 91.
If both those teams lose their next game Montreal only needs 5 to clinch
In that example you had Detroit or nyr getting 8 of 12 points (4 lost points) and Montreal gaining 3, which is 7Right. If the others win everything, sure. I was making an approximation of a realistic possibility.
They’ve been WC-2 since they beat Ottawa almost three weeks ago.The playoffs are basically set. It’ll take a collapse from Montreal to miss now.
Sounds entertaining! There really is no easy first round for any team
8 seed can beat 1 and I wouldn’t be surprised at all
I cannot f***ing believe that we're about to win the division and our reward is the best team in the NHL

Would be the Leafiest thing of all time, and they deserve it.I cannot f***ing believe that we're about to win the division and our reward is the best team in the NHL

I hate Montreal but I am really impressed by what they are doing. If they figure out a few key areas like 2nd line center for example they are going to be miserable to play against in a few years.
They should be seriously proud. They are on their way up and in a hurry.
To complete a comeback from 4-1 at thatThe Brad Marchand game 7 OT winner is going to be crazy.
I'd much rather play a team like the Rangers right now than the Habs. The only thing that scares me about NYR is if Shesterkin goes god mode, everything else about them is totally lifeless. Habs are young, hungry and motivated. You seem to be spot on about the biggest weakness. Problem is i see alot of teams looking for the same thing and not alot of supply.
Oh stop. This is the NHL. If you can’t beat the best teams you aren’t a champion. They need to face their demons and win.I cannot f***ing believe that we're about to win the division and our reward is the best team in the NHL

This, this, this a thousand times this. They are nothing but losers until proven otherwise. I'd be thrilled to be proven wrong.Oh stop. This is the NHL. If you can’t beat the best teams you aren’t a champion. They need to face their demons and win.

A lot of teams are indeed looking for a 2nd line center. Dach is not it, he's a walking bandaid and he's not that great when he does play. Habs have a lot of picks and can afford to spend some depending on the price without sacrificing their build. They should be doing their homework pronto.
Good point on Hage. He has that potential but he's definitely not ready to step in on the 2nd line of a playoff team yet.Dach showed good things in year 1. He didn't play in year 2, and year 3 it felt like he was playing catchup but couldn't get to his peak form in year 1.
He's now 24 and hasn't been able to finish any of the last 3 years. I'm sure the Habs have started looking at other options, and there's nothing imminent on the farm. Maybe Michael Hage a few years from now but that's too far down the line.

Florida is a very bad matchup for us, so yeah it probably is. Toronto wants to be like Florida except it doesn't have the personnel to do it as well as Florida does. They'll probably beat us in 5-6The one playoff round this leaf team won was against a Tampa team that went to 3 straight finals.
Would the Panthers coming off b2b finals and looking beat up be the worst thing?
That's nice and all except in the NHL you want the easiest pathway. The Leafs have demons irrespective of their opponent, I'd rather they try and figure it against weaker competitionOh stop. This is the worst thing I've read all dayThe Brad Marchand game 7 OT winner is going to be crazy.
