Another Shero memory from Bob McKenzie. :)

And what today’s news, Lou Lamoriello is the only former Devils (Scouts and Rockies too) general manager still living.

And Lou and Tom are the only living people to serve as Devils GM.

Obviously doesn't take away from how absolutely awful this news is but that last line isn't as surprising since it was Lou from 1987-2015. There was only 2 prior to him for the Devils and Tom is only the 5th ever GM. Just shows how crazy long Lous tenure was here.

Just the way Shero handled Taylor Hall alone was a net positive…the initial trade, the heart to heart after his first season when Shero wanted to know if Hall was all in, then not giving in on a long term extension and working out a nice cash out trade when the time came to part ways.

Hall also led to Mercer, Siegs, Bahl (who led to Markstrom eventually) then making the correct pick both times at 1 which he easily could've f***ed up.

I almost forgot Siegs was 'part' of that trade lol

The Hughes #1 was pretty much a slam dunk aside from a few people on this board who wanted to hype up Kakko and make a parallel with the Nico draft, but the Nico draft was definitely having a conviction against the pre-draft grain and following through on it.

Jeez that’s some shitty news. Wasn’t a big fan of his tenure but it’s just a game and means nothing. No one should go when they’re still relatively young. Is there any indication yet of what exactly happened?

We should look into trying this

Noesen-Hischier-Bratt
Cotter-Mercer-Meier
Palat-Glass-Sprong
Tatar-Haula-Bastian

I've liked Sprongs game a whole lot.

Shero had some bad thrown into his tenure (cough cough John Hynes) but he got the team on the right track. I'm honestly surprised that he passed, and it seems like I'm not alone. Was he suffering from something in secret?

Im very much still team we should not feel bad or second guess the 2017 draft. Makar is obviously the better player with hindsight but Nico is still worthy of that pick and is the heart and soul of this team. Still underrated around the league.

Skipping on Nolan was huge though. Man we would he in an awful place if that was our pick

I forgot Glass went 6th overall in that draft.

What was wrong with the John Hynes hire? He did fine with the young players. It was an obvious transition hiring. Same with Ruff. Shero wasn’t hiring a win now coach in that spot. What are the expectations here?

Taylor Hall going into God Mode in 17-18 changed how things played out in those years but Hynes did fine with the rosters he was given. 15-16 was a good example.

Sure, maybe he hung onto Hynes too long but giving the reigns to Nas earlier does nothing that season.

I don't even know how much we can slag him for Hynes given he's gotten two jobs since us and is still gainfully employed himself, ironically for Minnesota. Obviously he stayed with him too long here, but I'm not sure firing him sooner and replacing him with Nas would have made any appreciable difference in 2019-20.
