i mean its pretty funny seeing how the tides changed after all the hype the east got.
I did simply say slightly irritated. It’s just the constant dismissal I felt was happening on these main boards. The narrative kept being “West is a joke, East gonna kill”. If you look at the back half of the season, it’s the opposite and I’d take that momentum going into the playoffs over the full season. Of course the East has great teams and particularly a historic season from Boston, I was just bothered by the instant write off of the West. It’s all fair game now.

Oilers 24-4-6 since then but the Bruins seem to have a few more wins but more losses. Hard to keep them straight in my head as I counted. Maybe the broadcast crew was wrong when they said it.

The Bruins are 27-6-1 since that date. 27-7 to 24-10...

Looking at the 'battle' for the Wild Card spots this year in the East has been like watching a bunch of uncoordinated drunks stumbling around trying to win at musical chairs. It seems like no team aside from maybe the Islanders can just get the job done down the stretch and pull away, continuously embarrassing themselves over and over again.

NYI is pacing for 93 pts, while Pittsburgh is pacing for 92 pts, which is the lowest total of an Eastern 8th place playoff team in the 'Wild Card' era and lowest since 2012 when the Sens made it with 92 (not including lockout/covid seasons). On average, the last Wild Card team has had around 95-97 pts most years, in fact last season Washington had a whopping 100 pts in that spot.

When you look at the other teams in the 'race', they have also been pathetic in crunch time. At one point it looked like the Islanders were in serious danger of falling out, with Barzal getting hurt bad (he's still not skating), and teams like Ottawa, Washington, Florida, Buffalo and Detroit all having 5-6 games in hand and being only a couple of points behind. Despite this, they've all stumbled hilariously while NYI has managed to go on a bit of a run and stay ahead of the pack (7-3-1 in March). Florida actually made it into a playoff spot, only to follow it up with a 4 game losing streak (all regulation too). Ottawa was within striking distance, then Dorion thought he had big dick energy and got Chychrun and they've pretty much sucked since. Buffalo looked like they were finally gonna break the drought but goaltending and D let them down spectacularly while they also faced some bad injuries. Detroit was overperforming their underlying numbers and eventually resigned to the fact that this is another failed season and they may as well tank the rest of the way. Washington is old and injured.

Records in March
Pittsburgh: 6-6-1
Florida: 6-5-1
Washington: 5-5-2
Ottawa: 6-7-1
Buffalo: 4-7-3
Detroit: 3-8-1

Not a single winning record and a combined record of 30-38-9 for all these teams fighting for that last spot :help::surrender Can any of the other drunks supplant Pittsburgh or will Pittsburgh be the one that successfully falls backwards into the playoffs?

No season is the same. Considering that there is not alot of points difference between #2 and wild card could also mean that its very even and points were more spread out this season. This is a hilariously long rant all made in error.

Hey, thanks for reading the thread. It’s been explained…

Since Jan 9, the date that’s been mentioned multiple times now, the Oilers have the best winning percentage. Just live with your historic season, bud.

lol what? No.. they haven't.

lol ok - thats a different date than you said but you're right. Highest points percentage, but they also had a lower winning percentage. Their points % is a little juiced bc of loser points in fewer games but fewer total points, but hey go off king. Congrats.

From Jan 9th, the bruins have them. This is from Jan 14th

so from Jan 10th-Jan 13th until now, the Edmonton oilers have a higher points percentage than the bruins. But for every other sample except those 3 days, they dont. You win the cherry picker of the year award lol

Seriously? I said since their loss to the Kings on the 9th. What am I cherry picking? This is ultimately a stupid argument but I got caught up in it. How about since the trade deadline when the final teams got settled? Best record since then good enough for you?
Edit: I said multiple times I heard it from the broadcast crew talking about their record since the loss to LA ON Jan 9th. Again, congrats on reading the thread.

Thread seems a bit derailed

As a fan of hockey it’s been a fun race to monitor. Seems like first team to blink is gonna miss.

As a Panthers fan it’s been really stressful lol.
You’re right and that’s mostly my fault. The East wildcard(and West even) has become crazy intense.

I really thought Buffalo was going to make it in. Pretty surprised. I have a super tough time predicting who the two teams will actually be.

Buffao might yet make it, but they are going to need a little bit of help.

It's also interesting that all four teams still in the mix have strung together at least consecutive wins. It was a bit of a mess earlier, but now it's pretty entertaining.

All 4 teams are playing well according to their past 10 games. Buffalo is 6-1-1 since their losing streak. Florida is 7-0 since their 3 game skid. NYI continue trucking along. Pens slid a bit but have strung together a few wins.

Pretty entertaining, and whatever two teams make it are going to be entering the playoffs HOT.

So, no longer embarrassing.

Kinda weird with all the Oilers are better than the Bruins from (this day to this day) talk.

What an arbitrary argument.

As a Penguins fan I'm merely annoyed at this point that the Pens have blown so many leads this year that it's gotten to this point. I'm stress-free because I'm kind of jaded and don't care either way at this point.

The Penguins are a pile of garbage being carried tremendously by Crosby Guentzel Letang and the refs. This team should be eliminated. Not even trying to sound like a Pens hater, but dear lord this team is rancid. They also lack a proper goalie, a proper defense (yes its hurt), and their deadline backfired tremendously View attachment 677576
At this point I'd start to question if Fenway Sports will care about the Penguins so they actually improve from this dismal mess. The future is gonna look really nasty if they don't improve.

Yet our power play majority of the time looks like it has no clue what the hell its even doing and gives up more shorthanded breaks against then scoring changes, try again giggle bits.

Huge losses for the Isles and Panthers tonight. Penguins given a life line.
Panthers got an important point. I think if they can manage a point against the Canes in their final game they are in. Pit wins both their games and they’re in. Islanders need help or they are golfing,
