New Jersey have 3 picks in 4th round, can't wait to draft!!

:devils draft so far:

4. New Jersey: Juraj Slafkovsky (W) - TPS (Liiga)
36. New Jersey: Jack Hughes (C) - Northeastern U. (NCAA)
68. NJD: Fraser Minten (F) - Kamloops (WHL)

Potential of Juraj Slafkovsky :

"We see Slafkovsky to become a top winger in this league, he is going to play with Jack Hughes for long time, this guy have all tools to become a star, he is big, he have great hockey IQ, great shot, great hands, we like comparing him to Andrei Svechnikov and Mikko Rantanen. Selecting him is a easy choice to make, he is a top 2 talent in this draft".

Potential of Jack Hughes:

"When we had selecting him, we all say that we are happy to have another Jack Hughes, but we don't selecting him because we are going to have two Jack Hughes. The potential of Jack Hughes is very good, he play a mature two-way game, C's in this league is very important and got great value in this league. Drafting Jack Hughes in early 2nd round is a easy choice to make, we see him a 1st round talent. We ranked him in range 20-26. Selecting him at 36 overall is a very good value. He got good offensive talent too, 16 points in 39 games at NCAA level in his draft year, that's pretty good stats.

Scouts have hesitate to take him or Rutger McGroarty, but with reflexion we think that Jack Hughes is a better fit for our organization".

Potential of Fraser Minten:

"This guy is a wildcard of this draft, he is a very young player, he is a very good two-way player, great mature game, all scouts of NJ are happy with this selection. He is a Darryl Sutter type of player. He have potential to become a very important player in playoffs time. Selecting him in early 3rd round, is a easy choice to make. He can protect the puck, got great speed with a good hockey IQ. This guy is going to have high value in NHL one day"

Can't wait to select 3 guys in 4th round. We have some targets remaining :)

How should anyone know you were talking about McGroarty ?

And anyway, @bopeep has his own views on the way he handles his choices, use yours for the team you own in this mock.

What's your team, by the way ?
Well there is not too many Rutgers around. Nobody going to pass on Slafkovsky for Cooley. Nobody knowledgable anyway. Slaf has Anderson size and speed with Pastrnak shot. Not going to see that again in 5 years. Cooley is small skilled center. The only advantage he has is a center. Didn't you fellows that lesson last time picking third? Drafting on position than skill. Taking Koktaniemi over more skilled forwards like Tkaczuk?

In fact Slafkovsky look more like KK then Cooley. Cooley and KK are 2 completely different players and pedigree.

:wings select LHD Liam Steele from Stanstead College

“An enormous defenseman with incredibly raw physical tools, we feel the sky is the limit with Steele and that at this point in the draft, we can justify the risk”

PMing
Wow! That's really high for Steele. Generally, he's viewed as a 6th-7th rounder. One of my favorites for Montreal in 5th-7th rounds.

Also, he's RHD.

He just helped Great Britain win Bronze at the u18s Division II.

A couple of vids of him below. Keep in mind this is Division II hockey.

It's a lot of really high upside picks - and not that this was by design, but I feel like it's a draft pretty in line with Detroit's image and their draft history too

I've said it multiple times now, I really like Lane Hutson and I think we should find a way to take him. It was actually between Pickering and Hutson for me, but I am trying out something different this draft.

In all fairness, the rankings from some of those sources including Bobby Mac's (the most important one given it's actual NHL teams) were from before the Olympics which was Slaf's coming out party. RLR and HP have Slaf at #2 and Cooley at #'s 4 and 5 respectively.

I like both players a lot. Slaf's upside with his skills/size combo has me very intrigued.

The problem is not saying that Slaf is better than Cooley. I am still not sure who I would pick between them. I have no problem with people having one or the other at #2 (or even #1).

The problem is saying it is the only legitimate opinion and that people who like Cooley more do not know hockey which is what the poster I replied to did. We're here to have fun, not blast each other.

I just went back and re-read his original post you're referring to. Yeah...he's way off base with his "Nobody knowledgable anyway" garbage. There's good arguments for both Cooley and Slaf. Different players but both very high end prospects.

Considering I can't see who's posting this nonsense, I'm sure the opinion holds 0 weight.

If people can't see Cooleys upside I would question their hockey knowledge immensely. I will have time for arguments on people who have other prospects higher but give Cooley the proper respect for how skilled, smart and impactful he is in all 3 zones.
