Can you explain how a player would understand an injury timeline better than a doctor? Kane is barely skating at this point
That’s pretty simple to do. A player understands their body better than a doctor does. A doctor makes an approximation where as the actual hurt player knows factually how he feels.

He's not even practicing yet so your simple explanation is simple minded. Kane has never had this surgery or recover before so how would he know? Doctors use imaging, precious cases, and objective info instead of " I think I'll be ready to play in a month even though I'm not healthy enough to practice today and have never experienced this recovery before". Keep reaching though

Again, a player knows his own body and recovery path better than a doctor who approximates. Recovery can either be quicker or longer based on the individual.

Oilers have a first round bye at the moment so they should be good if they get the Kings who they match very well versus.

Dont need the LTIR cao moves to beat the Kings.

R2 and onwards will see if the LTIR cheat helps them or not

R2 vs Knights will be a tough one

Ab surgery recovery and rehab is no joke. He’s got to be ready for a very deep run in the playoffs. They are rightfully not going to rush it.

To be fair I would expect a guy who can't grasp pdo to also think an athlete understands physiology better than a doctor
And this the type of comment that shows someone’s lost the conversation  . Recovery periods can vary, one individual can recover earlier and another could take even longer when recovering from the same surgery. Not a single doctor will tell you down to the day when an injury will be fully recovered.

Kane could easily be ahead of his recovery curve by a month while the next athlete could be a month behind. And no doctor can accurately predict that.

You need surgery to fix a hernia. There's no benefit in delaying it, it's not something that will get better through physical therapy. On top of that, Kane's injuries were listed as: two torn hip abductors, two hernias, and two lower abdominal muscles. The odds of him rehabbing and playing through all that with an offseason of rehabilitation was zero and everyone, including Kane, knew it.
We’ve seen more than 1 player try to rehab through injuries in the offseason only to ultimately need season-impacting surgery to address an injury. Conspiracy theories are fun, but my guess is the Oilers medical staff believed the odds that he could rehab the injuries and be well enough to play this season were high enough to pursue or they would have gone straight to the surgical option.

Too injured to play in any regular season games but I bet he will miraculously recover in time for the playoffs. There's a lot of hypocritical Oilers fans out there right now.

Idk why people always say “magically heal”

NHL culture is to play injured, but the league can’t make medical decisions for players. It’s a gray area between current rules, though it does require the league investigate medicals for all players on LTIR (yes they do)

They’re likely still injures, or at least not fully healed to the point an ethical doctor would recommend they play.

So all that whining about Vegas and Tampa from Oiler fans should now be directed Evander's way correct?

This is a bit disingenuous.

1) If the Oilers were truly looking to cheat the system, wouldn't they have iced a +$5M roster since the start of the season? Kane has been on LTIR since then and we haven't been using it.
2) In contrast, for most of the season we were operating ~$750K BELOW the cap (not using Kane's LTIR pool)
3) Most of the season we ran with a 21-man roster to save and accrue cap BELOW the cap and NOT using LTIR.
4) Even today, we are at $89.3M (so 1.3M over the cap, now by using a bit of Kane's LTIR)... but that's with 23-men on the roster. If we sent two guys down (which we easily could do once Frederic is back) we'd be back well UNDER the cap again.

Much to my chagrin, since I WISH THEY WOULD HAVE TAKEN ADVANTAGE... the Oilers are only just now using Kane's LTIR space as intended... to allow them to ice replacement level guys until (IF) he returns.

TLDR: My position is that I personally WISH the Oilers would have cheated the system, but they did/are not.

NEED PROOF? Go check out their roster at PuckPedia. Kane is on the roster, the total is $89.3. When Kane comes back they can send down two guys and have a 21-person roster that is fully cap compliant.

They didnt cheat properly just like the Avs didnt a couple of years ago with landeskog because they arent really trying to cheat (ie. Know for sure when kane/landeskog are healthy but holding them out).
