Surprising, because Valimaki was rumored to have been linked to a 2-year contract from Brynas of the SHL, to the point that people thought it was near-official. I wonder if he was guaranteed the 7D spot to ink this deal.

So yesterday Valimaki apparently signs a 2 year deal in Sweden then today Nikishin’s name gets mentioned as a potential trade candidate and all of a sudden Valimaki is back here on a 1 year deal? Hmm…

Carolina likely made a guarantee to the Valimaki camp that he will be the 7D guy. That's all this is.

I think we’re keeping our options open. We need a Reilly anyways. As soon as these crazy moves started happening I wondered if we’re getting involved. To do so Nadeau and maybe Nikishin are out there. Nadeau doesn’t have an easy path in front of him and if we don’t do something he’ll start losing value for still being in the AHL. We need to get him a spot or move him.

Nikishin is a really interesting situation. We just have been hearing nothing about what’s going on there.

Side note, reminder that both Jaaska and Nystrom are one way contracts next year.

At NHL pay. I know we’ve done it out of necessity at times but I’ll be surprised if it’s the plan all year. Unless he’s up and down all year.

His cap hit is also the exact limit you can bury in the AHL. I'm sure they're hoping it won't be necessary, but given that and his remaining year of waiver exemption I would assume they are also prepared for that outcome, if need be.

Ugh…. Sounds like lots of interest in Marchment if he makes it to July 1st. He is going to get paid well for a long term most likely if that many clubs are hinting they are after him is true…. Ideal tweak to add to our roster to help with certain moves being made by other teams in our conference, yet also can definitely fit well in our system playing rods style.. sigh.. oh well…


If we are serious about trading Nikishin, we could have gotten even more out of Chicago last night instead of them getting only one year before he hits UFA Byram!
