Dynasty Building XXXVII: Improving On A Cup Winning Team

Big kid who can score goals....has a nice wrister apparently. Wondering about Perevalov who is now 22 and unless there's some grandfathering in the new CBA, I thought I recalled that we would lose control of him....perhaps it will be next year as the CBA kicks in in Sept. I believe. Anybody know? @Lempo ?
I have fallen off badly from the CBA stuff. These MOUs to amend the 2013 CBA from here and there makes it a mess akin to the EU legislation.

Not-NA drafted players used to be under exclusivity until 4th June 1st after the draft, whereas NA players were/are 2+2 years until draft-related free agency. I don't know if Russians are subject to any specific crap. The lack of transfer agreement between NHL and KHL shouldn't effect to that at least.

Tuch likely wants an obscene payday rather than maximizing his chance at a ring, but if he prioritizes the latter, Tampa makes a ton of sense for him. They have a glaring hole at 2RW and enough cap space for around an 8x9-10.

UPDATE: Apparently the Caps are the favored team? Hmmm, they just traded for Kyrou, though...they'd be overloaded at RW unless Tom Wilson is willing to drop to the 3rd line, Jordo-style.

I could see the Canes offering Nikishin and Nadeau for the #2OA from the Sharks, and that could be a win-win for both teams. Sharks get two high end prospects that fill needs for their developing team (ready, but with more room for growth) and the Canes would have the opportunity to draft a high end center prospect who could be ready in a year or two to replace aging out guys. We would kick the can down the road a bit for having to force a guy into the lineup (Nadeau) and we can fill our third pairing hole easily with either CAL or Nystrom at lower cost going forward.

I’ll pass.

Feels too much like committing long term to a 30-yr-old Erik Cole. Paying for a past version of a player we could use.
Oh, my post didn't mean it to imply the Canes should go after him. This time of year and until the season starts, between the roster thread and around the league thread, there's overlap so had to choose where to post it.

Nor was I accusing of you as such, just making my feelings known.

Of all the money given out this offseason Tuch is the one that seems like it could end up being the biggest mistake IMO.

Svech, Jarvis, Blake, Ehlers are all 100% clear cut top 6 wingers. And Hall obviously in the conversation too still and could be for the rest of his contract or even further (dude is still one of the fastest players in the league I wouldn’t be surprised to see him not drop off all that much as he ages). If we did acquire another top 6 C and move Stank back to wing (not sure why we would but still) there’s another top 6 winger. Nadeau in the system projects as a top 6 winger too.

Unless it’s Kaprizov or someone like that why on earth would we go after a top 6 winger?

Stank’s emergence has me not really looking to add a C either unless it’s a legit 1C to have an elite combo with Aho. Guys like Larkin and Thomas don’t move the needle for me personally. RHD is our biggest area of “need” IMO, even if Nikishin sticks on the right side in the top 4. Walker played admirably but can definitely be upgraded. I love Chatty but he has 1 year left and can also be upgraded. Nikishin may stick on the right, may be moved for a big upgrade (hope not but accept the possibility) or may eventually shift back to the left side as Slavin ages. No matter how you slice it RHD is gonna be a need going forward. Maybe CAL or Nystrom can fill it but they are more likely to be bottom pair or at best 2nd pair guys.

Personally I see no reason to force any moves this offseason. Nikishin can’t be offer sheeted and we have plenty of time to figure out his contract situation. Going into next season with the same team wouldn’t be a bad thing at all. Next offseason there will potentially be some big guns to go after like a McDavid, Matthews or maybe a top pair RHD, etc.

No one out there interests me enough to pay big assets to break up this cup team. I could maybe be convinced about Nikishin in a Werenski deal if he requested a trade specifically here and it didn’t cost much more, but that seems like quite a long shot and still would have a logjam at LHD.

Still think we should just be patient now and gear up really really really f***ing hard for a trade package and pitch for McDavid next offseason. That’s a KD to the Warriors type of potentially dynasty defining move, and one I would move Nikishin in without much hesitation.

The BPA at 2 is Stenberg, a LW who IMO projects as a rich man's Seth Jarvis. Canes would likely either take Stenberg or package #2 for a blockbuster add at center or RHD.

Yeah something around the #2 is the only way it makes sense if we're taking San Jose here. Whether that's Nadeau, Arty, or the #31 is the question for what else we need to add. Question would be is if we're that high on Malhotra

Good player but can’t say I would want any part of that contract. Not sure why the caps do this and Kyrou at RW unless there’s something else in the works.

Good on Jarmo to avoid that contract though. I’d say avoiding the bad moves is a solid enough improvement for the Sabers, but if they can move some of their draft capital for another solid roster player it’ll be a pretty good week for them.

NJD and Caps are gearing up. They 100% have the rosters to shake things up in the division. It’s great to have a hoard of prospects and draft picks, but I hope the FO is exploring all options. We have enough capital to overpay (within reason) for a needle mover.

I mean, the Nikishin thing could simply boil down to him and his camp wanting more ice time than we’re able to offer.
I mean, we absolutely are able to offer it. Play him with Slavin (as Tripp suggested during the season was the plan going forward…) and give him consistent PP2 and PK time with the understanding being when Ghost moves on he’ll take over on PP1.

Sure, that’s fine on paper, but why would/should Rod break up the top pairing?

As for PP time, he’s got to earn that … and he certainly didn’t in the playoffs when given the opportunity. I was frustrated with KAM on PP2 as well, but he was still way better than Nikishin there.

Rod ain’t breaking up Slavin-Chatfield at least not for Nikishin. I get the sense Rod isn’t a huge fan of Nikishin

If Nikishin being shopped has any truth I’d say we could really be in the hunt for Helle. Argument against? I’d assume part of the reason we wouldn’t sign him is he preferring certain markets. Ain’t no way Winnipeg is one of those.
What do you think about Helly's age and postseason performance? I know he killed in the Olympics, but the past still concerns me a bit. Can't say I wouldn't be stoked if we got him, but there are also things that make me wary about it.

It can't be ignored, but I wouldn't have much concern about it considering we've got a much better defense and defensive structure than Winnipeg ever has with Hellebuyck.

I’m fine without Helle, personally. If Nikishin gets traded, it would be a scoring upgrade. We also don’t really have a clear replacement at center for Staal unless the organization sees someone like Cerrato or Ryabkin eventually growing into that role.

Honestly, I have no idea which direction I’d go if I were in their shoes, but with everyone else around them getting better, I can’t imagine they’re going to just sit on their hands and do nothing.
