Dynasty Building XXXVII: Improving On A Cup Winning Team

Bussi 39 Games 31-6-2 2.47 GAA .894 save percentage

What more does he have to do to prove himself to everyone. OBTW. 4 playoff games 3-1 (the one loss was in. Overtime on a freak goal. 1.60 GAA and a .931 save percentage.

Now. Why would anyone want to have random constantly looking over his shoulder thinking if he has a. Bad game he will lose his job? He’s earned the starting job, and we should be upset if he isn’t the starting goalie next year.

He has 39 career games played in the nhl and the guy behind him right now hasn’t played a nhl game in basically a year once next season starts

“.894”

HAND HIM THE STARTING JOB
Worked well enough so far

Obviously. And he was truly great in the playoffs. But goalies are voodoo and we’ve seen plenty of flash in the pan goalies. Of course we’ll take Bussi back next year on his bargain contract and give him a shot to keep the starting job. But to rely on him without other plans would be absolutely foolish. And to hand him the starting job without competition would also be foolish.

Ned had vastly superior numbers when he was traded for a third-round pick.

I love his story and I hope he has a long, successful career as a Hurricane, but I'm not quite ready to hitch my wagon to the idea of him being the #1, personally.

If the Canes leadership is looking to do anything besides just running it back as is as much as possible next season, if they are looking to tweak a few things around the edges or maybe swap out one or two players so everyone in the room has someone to root for and help them get their cup and keep the motivation, here are a couple suggestions… admittedly, like my posts so far, they basically lean towards just tweaking a couple things to add a bit more size and physicality without losing anything around the players being able to also play our system as well as the players they would step in for…

If they make it to July 1st, I’d like to see Mason Marchment or even Tuch sign here… Tuch would have to be this seasons Ehlers where he takes slightly below market to win here… if he is just trying to sign max deal it’s a non starter for us….there are quite a few teams wanting to back a brinks truck up to his front door (see: Seattle for example)… So utterly doubtful it goes anywhere on Tuch as anything other than a pipe dream…but given all these tampering and players trying to actively direct themselves to certain teams and given it is UFA…. Maybe it’s not completely a 0.00000% chance of happening…. I also viewed us being able to sign Ehlers as being highly unlikely last offseason as well until that happened…. So I’ll just dream a little over here…

I do think Marchment is an ideal add for this team and would loooove to have him here…. He rejected us before due to the timing of stuff happening in his personal life.. maybe the cup win will help us this time….

Trade wise, I just can’t let this one go.. another of my dreaming into being….swapping either Chatfield or Walker for Parayko would be a great option on the back end while also leaving room for the youngsters to come up and play more games with the big club (CAL, Nystrom although Nystrom is not playoff sized if we don’t add more size around him.. no way can we send out Ghost/Nystrom in a physical series against Florida or similar).. I really like Bichsel in Dallas as a bottom pair guy if we could steal him from Dallas… but they don’t like us much right now after our last deal :)

Spent the afternoon driving to the beach and now I start checking on things and am seeing a lot of smoke about the Canes closing in on Helle

That would be something. Feel like he would be an excellent heir to the Freddie throne and a HelleBus tandem would potentially be a cheat code behind our defense.

Not that I wouldn't be willing to find out but I know Helle is one of the best netminders in the league, would he still be if facing 12 shots a night most nights?

Where have you seen that?
The only thing I’ve seen linking the Canes to Helleybuyck was a loose comment from Kaplan:

Something generic about how the Canes and Vegas are always around the big names, nothing specific really.

Also, the below Canes rando aggregator account seems to have taken that report out of context as well as retweeting another rando account saying Hellebuyck to CAR is close:

So all that linked…I’d call BS until it comes from a Friedman or LeBrun. Who coincidentally said yesterday that a Hellebuyck trade wasn’t close.

Ok other than PK, who are we giving up for Hellebuyck? Because.......

The way things are going in the trade market right now you could float someone like Chatty out there with PK and maybe throw in KK along with some picks and then bank on Nikishin playing with Slavin next year (something Tripp alluded to being the plan already) and maybe bringing up CAL full time next year. Kol is also over here now as well so our defensive reinforcements are getting ready.

I don’t think they’re giving up anything for a 33yr old goalie making $8.5M.

Seems to me the whole linking of Hellebuyck to CAR is flawed. Just don’t see them paying up the acquisition cost and using up all that cap space on a goalie when they’ve proven they don’t have to to that to win a cup

I’m sorry, but I don’t think re-signing Andersen would be wise.

Physically is he completely cooked. The only thing keeping him in the NHL is his size and positioning. You can guarantee that he will get injured sometime during the season.

His play in the first two rounds was admirable, but if you go and look back to Ottawa, he was extremely lucky (or Ottawa extremely unlucky), the Flyers were offensively challenged, and our defense and possession was manhandling the Habs.

I think Kooch and Bussi are better options moving forward. If you keep Andersen we need to carry 3 goalies again. So I think we see if we can upgrade one of the former, or stay put. I think one of our AHL guys can spot fill when needed.

The whole thing hinges on if Hellebuyck has truly demanded a trade behind the scenes and is forcing their hand. Entirely possible given it’s his last year with a NMC (10-team approved list after that) and the whole ‘team USA stars demanding trades’ of it all.

If the acquisition price is depressed and he’d accept a trade here, you gotta explore that and I think they would despite the history of budget goaltending. The cap is so tightly structured to allow you to take advantage of this type of situation should a luxury piece come available.

Otherwise, I tend to agree we’re not paying market prices or trading roster players in this environment and they’ll be content to roll it back with the same goalies.

Our leverage here is we’re not forced to do anything this week if we don’t want to and can simply rollback a cup-winning roster. No time pressure to add and none of our premium trade assets have an expiration date.

Big kid who can score goals....has a nice wrister apparently. Wondering about Perevalov who is now 22 and unless there's some grandfathering in the new CBA, I thought I recalled that we would lose control of him....perhaps it will be next year as the CBA kicks in in Sept. I believe. Anybody know? @Lempo ?
