Friedman: Dylan Larkin requests trade

Would love him on Boston, don't know if I want to part with prospects/ assets for him since we literally just started restocking our pool. He's only a year younger than Pasta at 29, so He would fit fairly well into the current age of the Boston core.

I think it's more of a moot point. I highly doubt Larkin would only be okay with one team anyway, there are probably a good 3-4. And of those 3-4 teams, they won't all conspire to lowball Detroit, they'll make a fair offer (I know for a fact because Minnesota will be one of the teams, and Guerin will make a fair offer).
I agree there will be 3-4 teams and Minnesota will likely be one of them.

But the return will be similar to what Minnesota paid for Hughes. Those are good pieces, but none nearly as good as Fantilli. It's going to be a package of lesser pieces.

Honestly, I think DET would be better off long-term moving him and getting a better 1C.

He's a good player, but when this guy is your best forward for years, you get the results the Wings have gotten this decade.

Gotta consider larkin has a full NTC so can kind of pick his destination which may diminish the return.
NMC expires at the end of next season though, so the team does have some leverage. If Larkin won’t play ball they can tell him tough shit, we’ll wait until next year and trade you wherever we want.

Have a feeling both parties will handle it professionally though and Detroit will get a healthy return.

I think the thread we're in might have some effect on Detroit being on the up and up.
On the surface, if they get a bidding war and the best package they get is first round picks and prospects, absolutely.

But if they're getting Nico, who plays similarly to Larkin? I dunno, it's a pretty good swap imo. Hischier might feel like his value isn't what it should be in Jersey anyway. I think he's a better 1C than Jack Hughes is, but let's be fr this Devils teams is the Hughes bros team. That Detroit team could be Hischier's team.

Larkin's trade protection says hello. He can really put the screws to Detroit if he wants to
Yzerman doesn't have to trade Larkin, if I remember correctly he made Martin St. Louis wait a year after he requested out of Tampa

If Detroit and Columbus were as you say basically even, and you agree that the metro is shit. Then subtracting Larkin from Detroit and adding him to Columbus would make a huge difference.
I don't think Larkin would go through all these distractions and drama of demanding a trade to land on another non playoff team and have to fight his way up again, makes no sense to me.

We sing the "GM's don't have to trade him" tune every time someone makes a trade demand. But guess what always happens? The GM caves...
Yeah and the trade packages have always been pretty massive for guys of his reputation. NHL trades are usually significantly bigger than offers on HFboards

You could be right, but Colunbus with Larkin is almost certainly a playoff team in the terrible metro

He doesnt have to, and that is a similar situation. But you also don't want to keep a player thats publicly asked out. Tampa was also a much better team than Detroit is now

Well every single player that has ever requested out of Winnipeg had to wait until there was an offer that WPG loved.

Larkin is under contract, he will player next year trade or not, I don’t think Detroit is in a rush for B prospects and late firsts.

Detroit will wait out until they get a player for player trade. Like a PLD for Vilardi, they aren’t just going to role over and commit to another rebuild.

Could see Anaheim give McTavish and a pick/prospect for him.

Detroit still get a quality, young center back.

Coach Q would adore Larkin, IMO. Carlsson/Larkin 1-2 punch down the middle ready to compete.
Something like that would make sense,

I just don’t know how high Anaheim would be willing to go ontop of mctavish…. I’d assume mctavish + zellweger + another piece… but I don’t think Detroit needs zellweger(so maybe you do a 3 way trade and zellweger brings in an asset from a 3rd team)
