Detroit Redwings Downfall

It has been discussed ad nausem on the Wings board. Half of us believe he should step up and lead his team better, the other half believes he's right and Steve should've added at the deadline.

I fall into the former group.
The one thing I'd call Yzerman out on is a goalie. Get a real goalie man..

Pretty fair comment, he's not wrong at all. Didn't express it in an unprofessional way either. Can't hate on the guy for voicing his disappointment, he's obviously not the only one who feels that way. They have been mediocre for too long and Yzerman owes it to his team to make some improvements and give them a boost, especially since many of his moves didn't pan out or help the team as much as expected. Larkin made a long term commitment to the organization and doesn't want to waste his prime years waiting around building through the draft while the GM stands pat as "part of the plan".

Wings have been firmly in control of their playoff fate late in the season 2 years in a row and both times absolutely fell apart and choked with big losing skids. Larkin has been the captain for these and a key contributor in these skids by wilting when the pressure is on and not taking it up a notch. He needs to look in the mirror and figure out why he and his team keeps choking under his leadership. Maybe the real help he needed Yzerman to get at the deadline was a shrink.

66 points a day before the trade deadline. Only 1 team after them in the standings made playoffs. Perhaps they should have made moves prior to that, but I can't see anything being handled differently during that last week resulting in definitely making the playoffs. It's a what if scenario for them to squeeze in.

With that said, I think the team should be upset at how the roster management is being handled as a whole, not just the deadline.

You might say that he's inferring that Detroit management "fell down" on the job?

Have an extended family member who was a Wings prospect and in his NHL debut said Larkin was just a total ass. Completely ignored him in the locker room and the fact it was his NHL debut.

Said his public perception is so different from how he actually is. Think that shines through here.

Lmao Yzerman has sucked in Detroit but they didn’t play like they should have been buyers. Trade his ass and start over

Also discussed extensively on the main board here:

I don't really see a bubble team going all in at the deadline then.

From his perspective, he's in his prime right now and doesn't like missing the playoffs every year. From Yzerman's perspective, trading assets just to get slapped around in the first round like Ottawa is not a smart decision. Nobody is really in the wrong, just a matter of point of view.
