Dylan Holloway 55 points in the last 53 games

Having the young 1st round pick leave and blow up in his first season on a new team is the worst. Meanwhile Edmonton’s off season move for Jeff Skinner to provide more scoring depth flops so far? It’s the perfect storm in a terrible way. Not sure a GM can ever really live this one down with his own fan base. There is one way that it stings less and that is a Stanley Cup where Skinner does something memorable to contribute.

Rich Peverely from the Bruins for Blake Wheeler was always justified by the fact Peverley helped the Bruins on their cup run that season.

I don't think any team had a more ambivalent relationship with young star players then Boston in the prime Chara, Savard, Bergeron years. It was a code of conduct on and off the ice.

Oilers fumbled this one bad. $10 million on Arvidsson, Skinner and Henrique this offseason, and then assets for Frederic and Walman. It feels like their window could close by next year. All contingent on Mc David. Ekholm too who is nearing the end of his prime, and Bouchard ready to cash in as well. Mixed with troubles between the pipes.

Good for Blues though. This wasn't like signing Shanahan and losing Stevens. They improved in the offseason at a fraction of deadline deal costs.

Why didn't the Oilers match again ? Were they not able to because of the cap situation they were in or they decided he wasn't worth it ?
Arrogant GM that’s bad at evaluating talent imo.

When I talked to fellow oiler fans around the city at the time of the offer sheets, it seemed to me like the consensus from the fans was definitely match Holloway and let Broberg go. Holloways talent was pretty evident to most Oilers fans, before and especially after he started hitting his stride in the late rounds of last year‘s playoffs.

Extremely frustrating our management failed to recognize Holloway was going to be a very important piece for us going forward.
