There seems to be some misunderstanding about trading the 1st round pick and how it could impact the team. My position is that getting an elite player, like EP40, would have a greater effect than just the player themselves. Getting a player like EP40 shows the rest of the team, that management is serious about winning. It also bumps everyone below him down a spot to likely get easier match ups.
I believe the psychological effect of showing the team you are gonna help and get them more skill would boost their production. Players don't care about what draft pick we get, but you get EP40 and even they start to getr hyped. These players haven't had a meaningful add to the team in years.
You can disagree with my thoughts and that's fine, but I believe trading the pick last summer would have been the right move if they had used it to get an elite player that signals to the rest of the team "okay, we are gonna help you guys, but playtime is over"

If buffalo did s trade in the summer that they move their 1st would gave bern a karhr trade, not s small one
Hes not a rental for a playoff push. He has a lot of term left.
I dont think nashville and buffalo are good trade partners for a player like cozens.
Buffalo has many young players they can trade ( excluding UFAs to be) like one of power/byram/ samuelsson, one of quinn/ benson/ peterka, one of their many prospect F in rochester and below
Prospects I do NOT see getting moved outside a blockbuster major trade would be Kulich, helenius/ Ostlund, and Wahlburg
Cozens is a weird trade option.
I feel he’s more off season move than trade deadline.
From a Jets perspective we need improvement on 2c over Namestnikov, but he’s producing higher than cozens is.
I feel cozens has a ton of long term potential, but isn’t a 2c for a playoff push this year for any team. He’s a lesser middlestadt and Colorado is looking to drop him yesterday and improve on 2c.
Cozens is a long term investment. I think teams will be willing to pay more in the offseason. If buff doesn’t want to continue to develop him that’s when I’d move him. Could be an amazing player though!

Seems like some Sabres want to get what he'd be worth IF he was playing to his potential , aka 60-70 pts center.
1st round picks, and recent 1st round picks prospect are considered like spare parts yet we're talking about a player who's going to turn 24 and has not played very well for 1.5 years and is signed at a lucrative contract for years to come. He's still young, but there's certainly a big risk for the acquiring team... That guy isn't worth 3 first rounders.

Rantanen and Necas were just moved.
Miller was just traded, doubt they move Pettersson now.
There was some king of smoke about Pastrnak but really doubt Boston moves him. He has NMC, doubt he waves for Buffalo.
Mitch Marner, maybe you're best bet, but soon to be UFA and has NMC too.
Really don't see who you target that make sense for both teams.
...and again we're back to it being the Market that's Buffalo's problem right now...

I feel reasonably confident in saying there isn't a single Buffalo fan in here asking for 3 first rounders for Cozens. Not one. So I have no idea what you are talking about.
All we have said, REPEATEDLY, is that we aren't interested in picks and prospects. The GM has said the same. IF Cozens is traded it is likely in a 1 for 1 deal for a similar player or with Cozens being part of a package for an impact player. This has been said multiple times.

Unless it's for someone better in a package, keep him. He is likely to remain a 50-point 3C ish player at worst next year too. Contract will just be shorter.

Yes, there are risks/concerns from both sides....
Sabres have someone they really liked after his 31 goal and 68 pt season at age 21/22 (Feb 9th Birthdate) and they gave him a contract for this type of production or more (as he gets older). No doubt they want to get close to the 30/60 trade value. Most fans in this situation would say the same IMO.
The acquiring team or team trying to trade for him sees the potential of him rebounding to that level but there are no guarantees so they will not give locked in 60+ pts value either.
The only 1/1 trade that makes sense is someone drafted as high or around the same spot, showed potential like him, but faded like him (or struggling to get to the level you want them to be at).
My hunch says most teams are offering a NHL player (maybe not as good as Cozens), pick, and prospect.

Very hard to do this type of trade midseason
If happens, will likely be with another non contending team.
And Cozens would be part of a package for someone the Sabres see as a better player
