...switching deck chairs...in fact, I'd take Cozens over Zegras all day every day...Cozens for Zegras?
Why is that every time someone disagrees with you on the trade value of a Habs player, you immediately state that they are trashing the Habs. No, it is just that nobody else agrees with your ridiculous over valuing of every Montreal prospect.
What is this?^^^ To all the posters above who REALLY wanted to trade the Sabres 2025 1st round pick last summer to get help/win now. How would that look now? Would you honestly say you still regret that kind of move wasn't made?
Sabres are staring at a top 3 pick in the draft and nobody they would have received 8 months ago in a trade would have pulled them out of the gutter. It would have been a terrible deal for Adams and co.
Teams that trade their first round picks to win now are contender and maybe bubble teams that are up and coming and it will take them over the top to win in the playoffs.
I'd love to trade picks and am entirely not married to them, I swear. But mortgaging picks to simply GET to a 10th seed (and still miss) and at MOST the 8th seed isn't worth it to me.
Hes not a rental for a playoff push. He has a lot of term left....because your options will probably be limited to teams wanting Cozens for a Playoff push...how many teams looking to push for the Playoffs are going to trade a BETTER player??...how many rebuilding teams are looking to trade a BETTER player to get Cozens +??...the Market is the problem for Buffalo, imo...
I dont think nashville and buffalo are good trade partners for a player like cozens....agree in theory, but is a team like Nashville going to give up someone "BETTER" than Cozens when they want the same thing as Buffalo; to get relevent again??...imo, at best you're looking at a player who has relatively the same upside as Cozens in a change of scenery deal, unless Buffalo adds other pieces that it may hurt them in the future to move (a like Byram)...to nab a Petey or someone like that is going to cost heavy and it's not like a team like the Nucks want to retool, they also want to stay "relevant"...the Market this year is the #1 thing going against Buffalo...

Buffalo has many young players they can trade ( excluding UFAs to be) like one of power/byram/ samuelsson, one of quinn/ benson/ peterka, one of their many prospect F in rochester and below
Prospects I do NOT see getting moved outside a blockbuster major trade would be Kulich, helenius/ Ostlund, and Wahlburg
Who's available tho?...bundle Cozens & Power, imo...take a BIG swing...
Who's available tho?
Rantanen and Necas were just moved.
Miller was just traded, doubt they move Pettersson now.
There was some king of smoke about Pastrnak but really doubt Boston moves him. He has NMC, doubt he waves for Buffalo.
Mitch Marner, maybe you're best bet, but soon to be UFA and has NMC too.
Really don't see who you target that make sense for both teams.
I feel reasonably confident in saying there isn't a single Buffalo fan in here asking for 3 first rounders for Cozens. Not one. So I have no idea what you are talking about.Seems like some Sabres want to get what he'd be worth IF he was playing to his potential , aka 60-70 pts center.
1st round picks, and recent 1st round picks prospect are considered like spare parts yet we're talking about a player who's going to turn 24 and has not played very well for 1.5 years and is signed at a lucrative contract for years to come. He's still young, but there's certainly a big risk for the acquiring team... That guy isn't worth 3 first rounders.

Fair enough and explains why Buffalo says noYes, there are risks/concerns from both sides....
Sabres have someone they really liked after his 31 goal and 68 pt season at age 21/22 (Feb 9th Birthdate) and they gave him a contract for this type of production or more (as he gets older). No doubt they want to get close to the 30/60 trade value. Most fans in this situation would say the same IMO.
The acquiring team or team trying to trade for him sees the potential of him rebounding to that level but there are no guarantees so they will not give locked in 60+ pts value either.
The only 1/1 trade that makes sense is someone drafted as high or around the same spot, showed potential like him, but faded like him (or struggling to get to the level you want them to be at).
My hunch says most teams are offering a NHL player (maybe not as good as Cozens), pick, and prospect.
