Report: Flames among teams to contact Sabres about Cozens from theScore.

Note: I completely suck at mock trades, I've been ridiculed plenty of times before but I do really like airing out my opinions otherwise I just won't think any better. Sharangovich interests me by the couple of times I've watched him but I'm not sure if the Flames would like the idea, nor do I know how he fully slots in with the Flames. Websites list him as a 3C and could slot in at the wing?

Is this a reliable source at all? And what team are you interested in Sharangovich for?

1. 🤷, but seems to be re-reporting on a Hockey News article 3 days ago.
2. I'd assume it'd be obvious if it's talking about Cozens, but I am talking from a Sabres perspective here.

Well, as a Sabres fan, I would be more interested in more proven players, Kadri, Weegar, Andersson and Coleman. Sharangovich is an interesting player and a good guy, but I don't know how he will fit in. Although he already played under Ruff in the Devils and seemed to have good seasons, but last season was clearly a breakthrough for him, and what's wrong with him now?

Sharangovich appears to be more of a winger. Be surprised if they traded him after the extension though. They pretty much gave him Coleman's money.

If anyone is traded it would be Coleman instead. I'd be willing to overpay whatever that means. We need young centers so bad.

I'd probably do Newhook + CGY's 1st + Mailloux for Cozens

That's a solid offer IMO. Newhook is a decent middle 6F that has ability to play center and Mailloux is a RD piece that is close to NHL ready. The Flames 1st is the cherry on top that helps the Sabres get in another trade... saves them cap space too.

The other offer I have is Newhook and Beck. I've got a little heat from some Habs fans at having Beck on the table. I'd give the Sabres a choice between Beck and Mailloux. Not sure if I would add the 3rd part but if I did, I'd add both 2nd rounders. I feel a 1st on top is overpayment.

I've seen this type of package from Montreal fans, and I'm not really in love with it. Bottom six forward + a first probably in the 20s + a bottom 4 OFD prospect isn't what I would want to trade Cozens for. I'd be looking more for a package with Cozens to bring in a better player, or a one for one type of trade for a player in a similar situation.

You would trade Cozens at age 23-28 for Kadri at age 34-38?

I can't force you to like Newhook but for the record, he is more like a middle 6F. Below average 2nd line talent and above average 3rd line talent. His pts/game in his career so far is 0.44 vs Cozens at 0.58. Over the last two seasons, it's 0.47 vs 0.55. Both players are underperforming to their potential.

What are your thoughts about Dach+ for Cozens? The + won't be substantial. Maybe a B prospect or two 2nd's. Something like that.

I have seen someone say Kadri? They can't be serious? Trading a 24 year old for a 34 year old?

Better than continually taking spare parts that turn into nothing for our young players.

We don't need more prospects and picks and this management group is incapable of turning said prospects and picks into an impact player. If you only want to part with that kinda stuff you are better off targeting someone else.

I'm not a fan of Dach at all, I think he is like Jack Quinn who had serious injuries and their careers will be impacted because of it.

I wonder what Gorton/Hughes are offering because the rumors are we are in the mix as well. Maybe it was a quick conversation

I'd avoid the "spare parts" narrative. Just say you pass on that offer. It's OK to decline an offer without trashing the players in the offer. It's a very bad culture on these boards.

I'm not sure there is that 1/1 trade you are looking for. But if you think flipping Cozens for a 34-38 contract fits, that is your choice to make.

I am curious to see what he returns.... looks like there is enough smoke to indicate it's going to happen. All the Habs can do is offer several packages and if it's declined... so be it

Nope, we need RD too. Weegar/Andersson.

I'm with the Flames on this. The circumstances just don't allow for it. They are in a playoff spot and I very much doubt they want to derail their momentum. Pretty sure they are offering youth and futures.

What about the Islanders? I think they are looking to make a hockey trade.

Seems like you're looking at the low end scenario for the 3 assets.

I think Newhook is a young and established middle 6 guy, not bottom 6.

CGY's 1st is most likely in the 10s not the 20s.

Mailloux's potential is probably number 3-4-5. 3 if all goes well, 4 if he keeps the same trajectory, 5 if he has very little improvement going forward.

With how the Sabres develop talent, I have to assume the low end lol

Coleman has a 10 team accept list.
With the type of dude/gamer that he is, zero chance you could negotiate a 'how about we slide Buffalo on this bad boy' scenario.

Honestly, Shango, is the only Flame that fits this mold that doesn't have any protection.

None of this is remotely interesting for Cozens for me.

Dylan Cozens is not rumored to be available.... the rumor is teams are interested based on the Sabres situation and Cozens to have been struggling.

We are not interested in your quantity value offers with cherries on top as sweeteners. Don't build a package. Offer up a player that for whatever reason is available and is an upgrade on Cozens and Sabres need to build a package.

Otherwise there is no real reason to move Cozens and we just keep him.

So don’t offer a package for Cozens, but accept a package from us for a better player. Why does it sounds like every other fanbase reaction to trade thread about their player?

Jets are in need of a 2C and I’d, personally, rather they acquired someone like Cozens over wasting more assets on pure rentals.

I mean it happens all the time in NHL ... if it doesn't fit your team than so be it. I'm not saying it should but if teams are in a position that a player is not fitting into their plans for whatever reason and that player is something we can use and need to add to Cozens for an upgrade then that is what we are looking to do.

Look at Chytil and Miller. Necas and Ranaten.

There are different levels but it is a common occurance and this is what we are looking for...utilize our extra assets to make an upgrade... not downgrade for a collection of more assets.
