Someone in another thread referred to King as "useless" and it got me thinking. I googled him and came across this article...

http://www.yardbarker.com/nhl/articles/dwight_king_hasnt_taken_the_step_the_la_kings_wanted/13072072

I kind of agree. He has all the tools; size, skill. He occasionally throws the body but sometimes he just kinda pushes guys lightly into the boards. He occasionally fights (when Ryan Reaves forced him). In scrums he seems just to back off. In the playoffs, he was awesome and was physical against Phoenix.

What happened? 4 goals, 1 fight...Kinda invisible...healthy scratch once this year. I just I expect him to have more a mean streak like his brother or at least be more aggresive in the front of the net and in the corners. He would be a perfect player to park in front of the other teams goalie on the #2 power play unit.

Doesn't really have the skill. His game is pretty much a puck retention game along the boards, which is right now unproductive. I don't know what his deal is.

5 goals in 20 playoffs games put him on pace for a 20 goal season. In the WHL he was a 20-30 goal player two of his 4 years and even scored 24 in the AHL. Disapointing.

Pretty much a sophomore slump.

King is just not going to the net like he needs too.

Adjusting to the way teams play him now.

May never figure it out, but he is cheap and under contract control.

I doubt he gets moved anywhere.

I wouldn't judge him this year. Next year, different story. A lot of players have problems in their second year so that's all this might be.

He just plays so passively it's frustrating. I have no doubt he's working, but he's got decent speed and massive size. I want to see him play angry/aggressive

Not a good way to determine what a player might do, but especially with a player on the level of King. The playoffs are completely different than the regular season. This is why teams that sign the free agent that just had a great playoff sort of out of nowhere always end up with less than what they paid for.

Wait for King to score 20 goals during a regular season before worrying about what pace he's on for a regular season.

It was me who was complaining. I would agree here with you however its how he is sucking that is disturbing. He is having problems with everything. He can't even receive a puck and instead usually just clanks off his stick to the other team.

Then along the boards he should be able the fend off and retain the puck more often than he does. With Lewis and stoll playing well he just brings down the line much like what penner does to carter and Richards.

I don't want to bash the guy but damn he gets way to much ice time and brings nothing.

Those saying you need cheap players, bring someone up. Fringe players like him are a dime a dozen and can be had for just as cheap.

He is a bottom 6 left wing. With him and Clifford, we are set for a long while at the position from a perspective of depth. I would prefer Clifford on the third line and him on the fourth. His performance is satisfactory for the position, and I expect he'll improve over time. We'll see next season.

If the dime a dozen comment was true...King would already be replaced, Richardson as well. Ellerby wouldn't have even sniffed the lineup... ETC ETC. NHL Roster players are not easy to come by.

King can't score enough to be used in a top 6 role, and doesn't provide enough energy, grit, agitation, or defensive prowess to be used in a bottom 6 role.

I don't see him as an NHL level player.

Then what the hell is he doing in the lineup ?

I don't know, I've been wondering that all season.

It's like he escapes criticism because he's so invisible that people forget about him.

I would somewhat agree. King has really done nothing this year and I feel Lewis bails him out a lot on the possession game.

Could be a sophomore slump... If it continues through the playoffs, I would see what a Lewis- stoll- kozun line could do. Stoll and Lewis are big enough to dig pucks out but I think kozun has more offensive upside than king or Lewis not to mention he will be an agitator which I feel we lack right now (other than brown). Plus Lewis seemed to play his best hockey on the left. Just my crazy opinion.

Good thread because now King's going to score and have a good game. Look everything people have said is pretty much true but the staff knows much more than anybody here. The King/Stoll/Lewis line have been fine all year so lets not think that replacing King is all of sudden going to make the Kings better.

The Kings now know what it takes to win in the playoffs so lets see what happens then we can think about what needs to be changed after the season.

If Dwight had the mean streak his brother DJ has or even his BFF Nolan, it would really change his game...he just doesn't have it. He has the size and strength, but he comes off as a gentle giant.

Ellerby wouldn't have sniffed anything if Greene wasn't hurt. Now that he's back guess where ellerby is again? But this isn't about Ellerby. He's a 7th d man, much like king should be the 14th forward.

Richardson and king are 4th line players and can easily be replaced. Come on.

If that is the case....How come they are in the lineup ?

King has been scratched once this season.... Where is this dime a dozen replacement you are talking about ?

Off season is what I was referring to. Hell tt is a better choice over king. Fraser over king as well. We already know why he is still in there. Sutter will keep playing him as long as he is skating hard. He's said that previously. One of the few things I don't agree with.

If I was King, I would be very worried about my job...

Brown, Williams, Kopitar, Carter, Richards and Toffoli all have carte blanche; they are either established, untouchable or up and coming (Toffoli)....Penner will be a UFA, Lewis is a Sutter favorite, Stoll is a organization favorite, Richardson will be a UFA, Nolan and Clifford are tough and the coaches love them...where does that leave King?

Frankly, unless he has a good playoffs, I don't want him anywhere near this team along with Penner next year. There's nothing about his game that's noteworthy. I'd like to see someone else get a shot...

You guys all crack me up.

He's obviously a Sutter favorite. One healthy scratch all season. He's played 46 out of 47 games. He's defended him publicly.

Why would anyone think he isn't safe in his job?
