I guess you missed the point.

Possibly. I see a lot of people in this thread using the fact that Smith used a different goalie coach in the offseason as a negative towards Schwartz. Just pointing out that this is very common.

As far as Schwartz teaching Smith to staple his hands to his body. I've never seen him teach anything like that. He is constantly teaching goalies to have their hands up and out.

If you want to judge Schwartz's coaching ability, look at the goalie who he likely has had the biggest impact on, Tristan Jarry. He's having a great year and has a .916 sv% with a few of his earlier years pulling that down. .933 sv% this year.

Another thing to consider, in Schwartz's tenure with the team have they ever had a respectable defense? A poor defense will ruin any goalies numbers and confidence.

Schwartz is Garbo. He has survived all the purges and he hasn’t done a single positive thing for this org. Maybe it’s not his fault but it’s time for a change cause he hasn’t done a single positive for the organization. That’s just a fact.

Nothing in his time here says that he should still be employed as the Oilers goalie coach. Not one goalie prospect has met or exceeded expectations (Skinner might…) and every starter besides Smith (who is his own coach) has regressed.

I swear keeping guys like Schwartz, Nicholson, etc. just screams laziness and being cheap. Laziness to not try to find someone better and cheapness for not being willing to pay to be rid of the mistakes.

Hiring a dude who's entire qualifications boil down to "Did work for the local WHL team" is pretty much peak Oilers.

The Tristan Jarry who became very good after leaving to a better teams goalie coach? Who was coached in Bakersfield?
Many goalies that go elsewhere and get trained by an ex NHL goalie get better.
Zero while they are here.

Jarry is a pretty good example of why Schwartz should be fired into the sun.

Hextall joined the Penguins and fired their long-time goalie coach, hired Andy Chiodo and Jarry almost immediately broke out.

Thoughts on our goalie coach, should he stay or should he go. Pretty much all the goalies he coached for the Oilers have either got worse under his training other than Smith.

I'm curious what others feel.

He should've been fired many moons ago , many goalies ago .

Wishful thinking: Smith retires after this year due to injuries. Oilers re-sign him on the same remainder of his contract as Goalie Coach. Schwartz is skidded. Everybody is happy. No cap hit for Smith, better goalie coach.

I disagree on the cheapness. If there is one thing Katz is not is cheap. Hes paying Holland more than any GM in the league for example. He seems so scared to hurt someones feelings and appears to have real psychological issues regarding how close he is to some of these old boys. I have no doubt if Holland wanted 7m a year he would get it.

The real question is how and why is he the goalie coach to begin with? And how has he made it through all of the firings?
I call him Teflon Schwartz. Hes going to give Joey's time with the Oilers a run for the money.

Time to move on. He’s done nothing to help Leako and others. Been here since 2014. Get a goalie coach who actually played in the league. Lure Ranford away from LA with the big bux.

No, I'm talking about a different Tristan Jarry. You are talking about Laurent Brossoit I believe.

I'd hire Kevin Woodley in some sort of capacity.

From an analytical standpoint he'd really help out the scouting of amateur and pro goalies.

From a video standpoint he could help out not only our goalies, but are players. The guy is really good at breaking down strengths and weaknesses of goalies.

I know very little of goaltending or coaching goaltending, and I know even less about what Schwartz has been doing.

Results are results, though. Should be fired without doubt.

This is what I'm hoping for. He seems like he'd be a good goalie coach, and is clearly liked and energetic as a team guy.

Whatever they do, Schwarz has to go.
