I don't see the problem here at all. That's a badass interview and I love his attitude.

You don't WANT a guy that is okay with it, I think he said everything perfectly really--he's pissed, he's thrilled for Kopi, I respect management's decision even if I don't like it, and our relationship is hurting for it, but my job is on the ice and my responsibility is to my teammates.

What's not to LOVE about this?

Yeah, listening to it is better than reading random snippets that are a little out of context. Sounds like he and Sutter have had some good discussions. Kings will need him to perform well next year.

Love this interview. This is exactly what you want to hear from Brown and he's not hiding it. He states clearly that he doesn't agree with the decision but he respects it, and all he can do is be a better player for his teammates. That's all you need to hear. Of course he's pissed. If he was ok with this decision, he'd be Patrick Marleau.

It's not Rob Blake bad but this didn't help the Kings at all. Brown has played like dog crap the last few seasons and he shouldn't be saying anything.

This guy needs to go ASAP.

Loved the interview!!! Don't think there are enough of the old leaders on this team anymore to cause a divide over Brown losing his C from mgmt.

Crazy that the story was leaked! We can't get damn injury updates but we can get media fodder before its meant to be released...

I completely agree! He's a champion, he should be pissed!!! There's nothing to doom and gloom about this interview -- the player and his contract, sure. But not this interview.

I lost some respect for Brown after today's conference. What is he thinking? You still wanted to be captain and are disappointed? Your captain days have sailed, just appreciate the minor role you will have going forward. After falling off the map like this, I am surprised he would even be comfortable being captain. If anything, he should have volunteered to pass the torch, instead of being forced to remove the C.

what the hell are you taking about??? you want him to say well oh yeah I've sucked and I'm no good...the guy is a competitor and wants to win so of course he's disappointed...

If he wasn't upset about it, what kind of leader is he in the first place?

Glad he isn't happy. If he doesn't want to be here, the best thing for him to do is play better. Of course, he wants to be here so playing better solves that for him as well.

Don't think he said anything wrong at all.

Seems fine to me. He didn't say anything outlandish or unprofessional.

Yeah, I don't see anything unusual here. Lombardi did say they had to have multiple meetings including meetings with Sutter to work out this decision. That implies Brown being uncomfortable and against the decision which is fine. We're just getting verification. Hopefully this just motivates him. If it doesn't, it just proves the decision was just.

Still think it's dumb to strip him of his C because his play suffered.

It could be argued Dean Lombardi has been the worst GM in the NHL since Martinez scored that cup clinching goal. Sutter hasn't been much better.

You know technically buying him out or trading him would be stripping him of the C too.

what would/could you have done different Mr Herby Bowman?

With regards to Brown or Dean Lombardi?

Would not have stripped Brown of his C. What does it accomplish?

For Lombardi, well basically everything since June 2014.

I mean speaking as a hypothetical GM. its really easy to say that Lombardi did a bad job in hindsight, but really, what would you do differently?

do you keep Richards? who is Voynov's replacement? the Sekera trade backfired due to him being hurt for the majority of the time so I cant totally fault Dean for trying that out. I probably wouldnt do the Lucic trade again but other than that, I dont see how you can sit there and say Lombardi has been the worst GM in the league since 2014...its quite hyperbolic. dont really understand why youre so upset about Brown being stripped of the C either. what other solution is there? leave him as captain while he sinks further and have Kopitar be the de facto leader? that would cause more problems in the room

Who has had a worse 2 years as far as execs go?

1 playoff win in 2 seasons.
1st round picks gone in 2015 and 2016
Jones traded along with 1st, ends up on division rival and in the finals
2.5m in dead cap space this coming season
Defense in disarray

No, I would not have brought back Richards. I thought that much was apparent to anyone who has posted here awhile. Same with Greene. Again, 10 years, 45m after how those guys played in 2014? come oon

Gaborik extension, well this is tough. I was in favor of bringing him back and the only way he could do it because of the idiotic decisions on Richards and Greene was to go for a longer term less AAV contract. I wouldn't have done that because I would not have committed 8.25m in salary in 2014-2015 to Richards and Greene. Gaborik is much more manageable at 4 years, and a larger cap hit.

Alot of this snowballs from the awful decisions to keep those 2 guys. With an extra 8 and change in 2014 the Kings could have easily gotten two guys in UFA better than Richards and Greene, they would probably be on the roster right now, we wouldn't have a hole at 3C and on defense and wouldn't carry $2.5m in dead space.

Lucic trade only should have been done if the Kings were prepared to extend him, rentals are an awful strategy (as DL himself has said before)

If you ask Habs fans or Canucks fans, they employ the worst GMs in the NHL.

Rutherford wasn't looking so smart in Pittsburgh until Mike Sullivan fixed them.

As far as the last 2 years goes, I just don't know of a team that has lost more assets with literally nothing to show for it than the Kings.

Imo it was removed from brown now before he is traded or expansion draft to help kopi learn the ropes. It could be a distraction if they have to replace the c mid year. Finding a buyer is another story, but kopi will remain a king a lot longer than brown will at this point.

Do you mean by the Lucic and Sekera trades? Yeah, those deals were brutal given their timing and how they did little to help the team in the long run.

The Hawks have lost a lot more though since their last Cup win.

Now if they somehow manage to win a fourth Cup somehow with Toews, Kane, Keith and Seabrook leading the way, then I'm going to really start questioning what the **** Dean Lombardi is doing.

Although Hawks fans have been displeased, at least the Hawks have gained some assets for the players they were going to lose anyhow.

I'm really curious to see what Lombardi does to get this team back on the right track. Maybe naming Kopitar captain is a step in that direction.

It might be looked upon as a slap in the face to Brown, but it could also serve as a wake up call for him to get his **** together.
