I still believe Sutter should have not been brought back. I understand he's a good coach, but we're stuck with Brown and his hit forever.

If the divide between them was that huge, Dean should have just brought in a fresh coach, with a fresh voice, to try and get Brown going again.

Maybe everything's settled now between Brown and Sutter, but ugh, this is ugly.

Well, I'm not surprised. It seems like after all of the times Lombardi's been burned by Stoll, Richards, and Voynov, the Kings family vibe is changing.

Biggest problem there is would it be seen as the players running the team? And that can't happen.
It's unfortunate what has happened but they are both professionals and we can hope they can get past it.

But I think if the team gets really serious about wanting to move him just not having casual talks they can. It would likely cost us 50% retained. But that is still almost a 2.9M savings over 6 years.
Which is more than 8 years on a buyout if it were to happen.

I respect how honest Dustin was throught the whole call but man this does not look good at all. This is why I would've rather just traded Brown than make the organization go through this mess

50%, plus. Nobody needs Brown to reach the floor for a year. Other teams have their own young guys that they probably wouldn't want Brown blocking for half a decade. Brown is getting older. He's not putting points up. What does he do for another team right now? Summer of 2021 comes around, Brown has a year left, maybe you can get a team to take him at 50% then if he's not scoring 5 goals per year. Before then, should the Kings give up another 1st round pick, plus something else, plus more if need be?

People like to pretend around here he has no value.
He's not worth the almost 6M he is being paid but he is likely worth the 2.9M he would make on a retained deal. We might not get much if anything back but I don't see us adding on a retained salary like that.

well in all fairness Brown hasnt looked good in 3+ seasons
I understand hes pissed off but hes not a victim here

So strange, from ultimate high to pretty low.

Voynov/Richards/Stoll/Williams/Brown

Sucks to see all of this.

I still like LA's core but I think team chemistry is huge in sports. Having Brown around now seems counter productive. I get the mess it is. I hope it can be salvaged. I was never the biggest Brown fan but it sucks to see it fall a part like this. I know the guy still gets his millions but it's a crappy situation.

Sutter is my all time favorite Kings coach, hope he and Brown can come to a resolution.

For all Brown's faults, he bled Kings colors and bought in whole heartedly to DL.

I love comments like this on HF. "Just trade Brown for picks or something, Lombardi suks"

Its hard to think of another team that has fallen from grace as fast as we have.

I lost some respect for Brown after today's conference. What is he thinking? You still wanted to be captain and are disappointed? Your captain days have sailed, just appreciate the minor role you will have going forward. After falling off the map like this, I am surprised he would even be comfortable being captain. If anything, he should have volunteered to pass the torch, instead of being forced to remove the C.

The issue is that it's for 6 more years. 2 years? Maybe. 1 year? Sure. Nobody needs the Dustin Brown that scores 11 goals and less than 30 points, who isn't as consistent physically, even at $3m, for the next 6 years. The other team would be doing the Kings a favor by taking him. They're not going to do it just to help the Kings. The other team can easily get by without him.

If the scale goes from indifferent to pissed off I would want Brown to be in the middle. However it sounds like he is more on the pissed off end of the scale, and this better than the indifferent end.

Justin Williams had 52 points last year, doesn't belong with this group at all.

I just think he was a core player who should have been brought back. Debatable yes, just how I feel.

Greene over Mitchell too.

DL has done great things and so much more goes into decisions than an NHL # game mentality, but I did not like these moves. I hope someone writes a book down the line.

I listened to the audio version to get a better idea of where Brown is at. It seems like there is a big problem between him and management right now. He clearly took a ton of pride in being captain and is really upset that he lost it. He also infers that management leaked the story and never apologized for that, which really upset him. Personally I don't like how this is looks. Brown didn't take any responsibility for the last two garbage seasons or his own heavy decline in play. He made it sound like big bad management came in and pissed in his cereal. The Kings are not a best friends club. This is a really bad situation to be in. With Greene getting the boot and the rift between Brown and Sutter and Lombardi, I hope the locker room isn't a mess in October.

I don't see the problem here at all. That's a badass interview and I love his attitude.

You don't WANT a guy that is okay with it, I think he said everything perfectly really--he's pissed, he's thrilled for Kopi, I respect management's decision even if I don't like it, and our relationship is hurting for it, but my job is on the ice and my responsibility is to my teammates.

What's not to LOVE about this?

He repeatedly points out he needs to be a better hockey player.

And however it all went today, the only things that ultimately matters is that he has a $6m cap hit, and needs to be more productive. Do it for your teammates, do it because you dislike the coach and GM, do it to prove to yourself that you are what you think you are, whatever the case may be.

It would be great to see Kopitar raise the Cup and hand it to Brown first.
