I know right? It’s like so hard for me to wrap my head around the idea that there may be good players on bad teams so it’s much easier just to laugh about it and say they all suck!
We watched Durzi for years in LA. You don’t pay a 3rd pair PP specialist 6 million unless you don’t care about lighting your money on fire.

I mean good for him, but damn that is an overpayment.

Now looking back, good reason for LA to have traded him before having to pay the kid. Does seem high, but paying to keep him for the remainder of his 20's

You think it’s gonna really matter if Utah pays him 4 mill or 6 mill for the next four years?

Utah has plenty of money to sign all there guys. I’d say he’s 1 mill overpaid. Which is whatever. The cap will be over 100mill by the time this contract is over.

Ok…and where did he play last year? Or are we to assume all players’ results become static at age 23 and they are incapable of improving?

I mean…he’s literally not a 3rd pairing guy *now* so what he was in LA isn’t all that relevant.

Being rewarded for proving he is more than a bottom pair pp specialist playing on the opposite side. He stepped up in AZ and showed he can handle the minutes.

I like Durzi. But for $6 mill per season I would think they would have got more than 4 years from this deal. It’s very strange.

He was an RFA so the team could have done better here.

How is it strange? What do you think the going rate for a top 4 D-man with great underlying numbers is?

Four years fits Utah's timeline well. With the amount of defensive prospects Utah will have in the pipeline, there is a good chance Durzi will be overtaken.

Main issue with this deal is they are paying him based on the fact he just got almost half his points on the powerplay last year. But during this contract he won't be playing pp1 because sergachev is now in Utah. So kind of overpaying for the part of his game they won't be using.
Not almost half his points, but rather a bit less than 40% (39.1% to be exact).

Facts checking is a useful tool...

He doesn't get the chance
Wonder why...

Like close enough...39% is almost.
Either way paying a guy for 41 when he's more likely to score 25-30 next year is meh, IN MY OPINION (added for your benefit).

You have to add 28.2% of 39% to get to 50%.

And that is not an opinion, but a fact.

PS: Where did I criticize your opinion ? Your numbers, yes, but not a word about your opinion...

I could almost understand this signing if Durzi was becoming the top PP D, etc but after adding Sergachev he'll never justify that price tag.

16 to 20-21 would be half. 5 points. But I don't care. Let's stop.

- Sergachyov: $8.5 million
- Durzi: $6.0 million
- Marino: $4.4 million
- Valimaki: $2.0 million
- Kesselring: $1.4 million

- Minimal: Kolyachonok, Szuber, Koch, Soderstrom

- On the horizon: Simashev, Lamoureux

This hardly seems an unsustainable cap structure moving forward - plenty of space to add another really good top four guy, frankly.
