Marco Sturm injured his knee in the 2010 playoffs and missed the start of the following season. Boston didn't have the cap space to fit Sturm when he got cleared, so they traded him to LA in December 2010. After 17 games, LA opted to waive Sturm before the 2011 trade deadline where he was claimed by Washington.

I just remember laughing when I attended a game in October 2011 (several months after Sturm was waived) and found this Sturm jersey shirt. First because they actually produced the shirt even though Sturm was on the team for less than three months the previous season. Secondly because they were still charging full price.

Man, if there's one guy who I wish could've got a ring in 2011 it's Marco Sturm. He was such a huge part of the Bruins' revival from the 2005 gutter to being perennial playoff contenders by 2011. Great guy and so full of energy, always had the best facial expressions. But after his injury the Bruins had literally no cap space at all and when he was cleared to come off LTIR they had no capacity to activate him so they had to give him to LA for nothing and he missed out on the cup run. Always makes me a little sad.
