This one caught me by surprise. Tiger Williams....

portrait-of-canadian-professional-hockey-player-dave-tiger-williams-picture-id52448326

... yep.... had to pull that guy up huh SF? .... I have a like "love~hate" perspective with this one, always have. He's a great guy off the ice, Ive met him several times (he was owner & GM of the old Vancouver VooDoo of the now defunct RHI post career), decent hockey mind in fact, very astute, bright guy; extremely useful player, hard as nails, go through the wall for his teammates and he could play. Wasnt just a one dimensional G00n. The "hate" part had to do with his "Showboating" and in particular that nonsense of riding his stick through center ice after scoring a goal and his propensities to take bad penalties at inopportune times. Or getting ejected from a game early, leaving his teammates to suffer the consequences in facing a whole bunch of G00n's for the remainder of the game, your talented skill guys forced to fight (and often getting injured as a result), getting totally shellacked as a result. As an Enforcer & Fighter, one of the best. Has that kinda face you just wanna punch, motor mouth to go with. Miscreant. Villain. Believe he still leads the league in all time PIM's no? Real piece a work. No Fear.... Last I heard he was living in Prince George BC. Grandfather. Serious Big Game Hunter (Grizzly, Elk, Big Horn Sheep etc), outdoorsman.

Cant find a picture of him (maybe you can?) but Gary Bergman would also fit that category .... Wound up in Minnesota for a year before being traded back to Detroit, very respectable points throughout his career & never really slowing down, then winds up for one final season in ignominy with the Kansas City Scouts

Found some!

Bryan "Buggsy" Watson, most often a Penguin and Redwing, shown looking way out of place here in his 21 games with the WHA Cincinnati Stingers to wind up his pro career!

Fuhr and Gretzky in retro Blues threads....

This picture took me a while to figure out why, as the Blues definitely did not wear those colours in the duo's tenure there. It comes from Fuhr's biography, and is apparently taken during a post retirement Gretzky fantasy camp.

Probably not fitting with the idea of the thread (having played actual games with the team) but here's a picture from Bobby Orr's brief stint with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1980:

bobby_orr-102x300.jpg

Here's the story behind that:

Orr was invited to the Pens’ training camp by recently hired head coach Eddie Johnston, who had played with the great defenseman in Boston.

---

Orr took to the ice in a yellow sweatshirt adorned with a Penguins logo and the wording “Property of Pittsburgh Penguins” emblazoned across the front. Mainly working with the Pittsburgh defense corps, Orr helped out with drills, took shots on the goalies and provided a whole whack of inspiration to a young club looking to find a winning identity.

I'll always think of Don Awrey as a Bruin, but the last 3 years of his career were spent with the Penguins, Rangers and Colorado Rockies!

You might think of Wilf Paiement as a Scout/Rockie (6 seasons), a Leaf (3 seasons) or a Nordique (5 seasons)... but perhaps never with the 3 teams he finished up with -- Rangers (8 games, no pic), Sabres (56 games) and Penguins (23 games)!

A very rare picture --- Bobby Hull donning a New York Rangers uniform. In September of 1981 the Rangers were playing a series of exhibition games in Finland and Sweden. The Golden Jet attempted a comeback with thoughts of reuniting the Hot Line with Anders Hedberg and Ulf Nilsson hoping to rekindle the magic they displayed when playing together previously with the Winnipeg Jets. Unfortunately for Hull, both Hedberg and Nilsson were dealing with injuries which prevented the Hot Line from getting together. It was said that even without the 2 Swedes, Hull played really well for the Rangers during his brief stint with them but ended his comeback attempt and went back into retirement.

On September 28 and October 2, 1978, Hull found himself on opposite sides of the ice to Hedberg and Nilsson in a pair of exhibition games when the New York Rangers paid a visit to Winnipeg with the newly acquired Swedes following the 1977-78 season. The trio would later be inducted into the Winnipeg Jets Hall of Fame in October of 2016.

That pic with Nilsson and Hedberg on the Rangers is bizarre because it looks like they're still teammates -- because of course those Ranger jerseys were "re-purposed" a few years later for the Jets when they joined the NHL.

Yes, it was quite ironic that the Rangers switched from/to:

and the Jets switched from/to:

Jets01.png

I was never too happy with Winnipeg Jets GM John Ferguson after he did that to us. We had our own identity and it was lost when he changed the Jets uniforms upon entry into the NHL. The worst part was switching to something that was discarded by another team. If only the WHA-NHL merger had occurred one year earlier. :(

It was always strange to see Pat Lafontaine in a Rangers-uniform. Former Islanders-player and all.

file-photo-28nov97-new-york-ranger-center-pat-lafontaine-shown-at-gtcyx8.jpg

I'm guessing this was from a return to Buffalo in 1997 where they gave him a gift. But why that jersey? He only wore the goat head for like 12 games.
