Post-game audio:

Players: Wheeler, Ehlers and Hellebuyck.

Coach Maurice scrum topics: Assessing the game and specifically the 2nd period. Are guys cheating for offence? On the fifth goal against. Does having seven D contribute to the confusion? First impression of Sbisa? On Kyle Connor having nine shots. On Blake Wheeler. More on Kyle Connor.

There's no Ehlers file but two Helly files.

When will Maurice stop his favoritism of the vet Scheifele and finally play Little in the #1C role that he has earned? :sarcasm:
Little's been good this season, TBH. If Scheifele keeps this up, that might become the correct course of action. But I'd still like to see Scheifele without Wheeler to make sure it's not Wheeler poisoning his game.

I’ve never seen guys stapled together like Wheeler and Scheifele, despite their ever-decreasing 5 on 5 results. It makes no sense. If McDavid and Draisaitl, MacKinnon and Rantanen, or Crosby and Guentzel had the kind of overall ES results as Scheifele and Wheeler got they’d have been broken up over a year ago already.

The bright spots I see with this years Jets, is emerging of Ehlers and Roslovic, starting to come of age. Little is also playing well, so they should keep that line together, and give Roslo a fast guy to play with. I think our offense is just fine -- no problem, especially once Wheeler and Scheifele get their act together.

Where we're very weak and vulnerable is on defence. The color commentator said Poolman was on the ice, for 6 of 7 goals, and you just can't have that. They allowed to many odd man rushes and breakaways, and that's what will happen. Add to that -- Helle was just plain awful tonight.

Just think we've lost just about "all" of our defensive core from last year, in Buff, Trouba, Myers and Chiarot --so should we expect anything different from AHL defenseman ? I don't think so. Should also mention we lost 2 great defensive players in Tanev and Armia, and apparently Armia has 8 goals already this year. We sure took a big blow to our roster last year.

Chevy is going to have to fix the defense, like make a trade --maybe for a guy like Laine, and bolster our defense again, or we'll have to wait a long time to rebuild it thru the draft. Right now, with this defense, we're likely around a 500 team, like the record shows.

In tonight's game Helle played awful --the 1st line did nothing, and the defense was pathetic, so hopefully with the Cap money they have, by Buff sitting out or retiring to his fishing shack --maybe we can sign a couple decent defenseman --we really need them.

I think if Chevy knew Buff was going to retire --he would have thrown more money at Myers and Chiarot, but he likely did not, so you can't really blame him. We're in a rebuild year or years, of our back end now -- big job ahead. Hope something happens here.

Maurice would go through a wall for those two players

The Jets were--again--the better team tonight. Bounces didn't go their way, and Hellebuyck's and Brossoit's off nights basically sealed it

Silver lining...we're 4th worst in shooting percentage. That's not going to sustain.

Ding ding ding.

Given how much they (Scheifele and Laine, specifically) are routinely 50% above league average shooting, bottom four is akin to the very bottom for many teams.

Fortunately for many of the crybabaies around here, shooting % dips get coaches fired, so we'll see what happens.

Frustrating. It makes sense to have your best players together, but they've been seemingly coasting and waiting for the powerplay for almost a calendar year now. When they were split up against the Kings, they both started to play like they gave a shit for maybe the third time this season, but next game it was back to the status quo. Fix it, coach.

Spooky.

Stats say 7 saves for 9 shots for Bro and 14 saves for 18 shots for Helle. That checks, but I thought Helle was pulled after goal #5. Am I missing something here?

EDIT: Seems that the Getzlaf goal is pinned on wrong guy, so in reality should be 7-8 = 0.875 for Bro and 14-19 = 0.737 on Helle

Maurice on Wheeler:

"I think he's been good"
"He's been good with those kids and he's been working his ass off like he always does"

Brutal game by Scheifele and Wheeler. Neither accomplished anything outside of Wheeler's fluke goal, brutal in the defensive end. Of course, Maurice would play them 23 minutes each while keeping them together.
Did Scheifele play tonight?

CSW was that defensive nightmare that was expected. They *only* got 3 goals against 5-on-5 (maybe #55 and #81 were quick enough to make it to the bench once), but they are constantly over attacking with nobody playing it safe and helping the D occasionally. Yes, their D should not be playing that risky, and at least one D should hang lower even when that increases distance between D and F even more. Still better than a breakaway.

On bright side when trailing, CSW had a lot of looks for Connor: I counted at least 5 AAA-grade scoring chances up close for Connor. With better finishing or luck, he should have like 2 goals out of those. He kind of fanned two shots, but also the goalie made some very nice saves.

ELR though... what a treat to watch Roslovic and Ehlers together! I have been looking forward to see #27-#28-#29 a.k.a. AVG 28 line for some time. That could be a monster line. Little was also playing well, but I'd put Roslovic over him. Also as Little has been good, it would be not too nice to "demote" him out of TOP-6. Also if they played 27-28-29, that would leave horror line (81-55-26) failing together. I'm not sure those TOP lines would score enough goals to overcome all those goals against the horror line. The only real path forward should be 27-55-29 & 81-18-26. If that doesn't work, switch places of Ehlers and Connor.

It's "nice" to see we don't have only #2 and #23 on a playing roster over the sweet baby Heinola, but also now #5. "Nice". Very nice indeed.

I had notifications on on my phone and during watching the recorded game I got Athletic notification about "7-4" result. Thought at that point that the Jets will win 7-4. I was not too happy when Ducks made that 3-5 goal... :(
