Confirmed with Link: Ducks fire Greg Cronin

eakins was a tank commander. he wasn't a great coach by any means, but completely different situation than cronin

The only guess I can make is that those guys were supposed to do their interviews with reporters on day 2, but after the coach news, they cancelled it all. Maybe so they wouldn't be asked about it, or because they only wanted Verbeek commenting on it, etc.
This was exactly what I thought. Big news comes out and they don't know what all the players will say. My guess is they are trying to prevent anything said by the players that the FO doesnt want heard.

Edit: just to clarify, when I say "they don't want it heard" , I'm not implying there's anything shady, I mean it more they want to keep things calm and smooth during this transition.

He did keep them happy & positive while the team was being blown out in every game.
Softest coach I can ever remember. Hated the Terry black eye incident.

The "hard ass" way isn't all that acceptable anymore, because what it really meant was this guy is an asshole. Being friendly and personable while also demanding accountability isn't mutually exclusive, it just takes a talented communicator.
And we have Greg Cronins LIVE response to Statics scathing indictment of his poor communication with the players, Greg how do you respond?

Cro: I don't know.

that's more on verbeek and the FO for putting together an incredibly soft roster

one of verbeek's first trades was shipping deslauriers out
Shouldn’t that be on Bob ? Verbeek came 3-4 weeks before the trade deadline and did the prudent thing in trading every UFA away to tank properly for Bedard next season and truly start the rebuild.

You answered your own question when you said Verbeek chose to "tank properly for Bedard next season". Blowing up the team was one of a few choices. Here's Verbeek's own words after he was hired by the Ducks, as per Detroit News:

Named general manager of the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday, Verbeek is going to an organization in third place in the Pacific Division, in a wild-card spot, and past the early stages of the rebuild phase. ⬅️
"This team doesn't need to be rebuilt; they're in the middle of their rebuild, so this is a great opportunity to take this team forward and turn them into a contender," Verbeek said during his introductory press conference. "You don't have to come in there and look to take a long time. There's good players in the NHL, good players in the minors and there are players that have been drafted. There's a lot coming to support the growth of this team. That's truly what I'm excited about."

Dude how many times do we have to talk about 3rd place in the division. They had played 6 more games than the 4th and 5th place teams. And we’re 3 pts and 6 pts ahead of them. They were 5th in pt %.

And yes, but he said that before engaging in contract extensions, and then decided against it.

Asterisks only work in their favor, they get excluded when not.

Maybe I missed it, but I haven't seen any quotes form current or former ducks players lamenting Cronin's "unfortunate" firing. Seems a bit odd and telling that none of his players are defending him.
To me this confirms that exit interviews were determinative in his firing. I get the sense the players uniformly hammered the guy in their conversations with Verbeek the day before his termination.

Also a bit odd that they're not putting out any more exit interviews.
Given the news of the day that nobody would want to address, it would be hard to have conversations about the team's progress or players' progress and hopes for next year. It would be hard to talk about next year with the current vacuum in the coaching position.

I'm sure the players all spoke with Pat and got some feedback on things they could work on over the summer. But I'd guess the team decided there would be no public interviews.

Now if we had any real newshounds who have any player's contact info, nothing would be stopping them from making contact a few days later and asking if they want to talk.

If this was truly why he was fired it sounds like it was a mistake from day one. And it doesn't really speak well of Pat for hiring him to begin with.

I mean he was a shitty coach anyway, when it came to the product on the ice, but this just really makes it look even worse the hire.

Eh, it's not hard to sell yourself as something you're not in an interview.

I worked with somebody who seemed normal but had lied about their entire history and turned out out to be a counterfeiting criminal lol

Well, in the real world at the level most of us are at you can cover up a lot of you past. I'm not so sure it's as easy in the pro coaching ranks. There had to be hundreds of people who knew the person he was. It just sounds like maybe Pat didn't do very good due diligence.

But, let me add, the above would be my opinion IF the Seravalli quote is legit.

Taking a shot on who? Stamkos? Marchessault? They were horrible with the Preds. I can’t imagine they would be any better on the Ducks.
Probably not, but that’s free agency. Declining vets looking for their last big contract. That’s why you have to build through the draft and trades.

Or give a guy like Marner an insane amount of money.

Conversely he had decades of coaching experience and (as far as we know) no scandals at the time he was hired.

Maybe he's a decent guy and a decent coach that couldn't handle the NHL and it brought out the worst of him. It's not like it's an easy job.
