I remember when we hit 15-1-0, a lot of the commentary was that the Jets had banked enough points that they could theoretically muddle along at 0.500 point percentage for the rest of the season and still qualify for the post-season.

Starting to feel like we could well be putting that theory to the test…
Eh, I'm not particularly worried. We have Hellebuyck.

You aren't worried that we've been playing 22% of the season now consecutively 30th overall in five on five hockey? How is that not a worry?
Worried about the playoffs? Because I've seen Hellebuyck drag this team to the playoffs when the team played 100% of the season consecutively 31st overall in 5v5 hockey?

It's a legitimate concern. Personally though, I'm really just trying not to get emotionally invested in this season and this stuff is exactly why.

Well, he's also consistently failed to continue to drag/carry the team once in the playoffs. So I think @White Out 902 has a legitimate point.

To be clear, I'm neither saying the Jets are going to once again poop the bed or not poop the bed in the playoffs. I don't know what will happen and am just taking games as they come. Maybe enjoying some cilantro to keep it cool.

Somehow I knew I'd wake up this morning and discover the Jets had lost.

But we're still in first place, still 3 points up on Minny, and have a couple of days before our next game for Arniel to figure out why we're so lame in our first periods.

Edit: From the highlights I saw, Comrie played a hell of a good game.

I, as always, think this teams goes as far in the playoffs as Hellebuyck drags them. If he doesn't play well in the playoffs, the team isn't going anywhere.

I'm just not worried about getting to the playoffs.

Better than not waking up and having the Jets win.

Yeah, and how has Helley been in the playoffs lately? There isn't a bigger choke artist in the playoffs I can think of than the league right now.

I suppose that's where we are right now with this team. Thankful that we're at least alive to watch the car crash in front of us

I'm not in the slightest bit interested in having you try to pick a fight with me.

I responded to Hank's comment about whether we're going to be at risk of missing the playoffs despite our hot start. I said I'm not worried about it because we have Hellebuyck.

If you want to pretend that I was saying something I wasn't, I'd recommend you take some time to collect your thoughts, write them down on a piece of paper, and present it to someone who cares about what you thought I said.

Cilantro is legal, and the "car crash" is just a bunch of guys pushing a piece of frozen rubber around some ice and trying to put it into the net better than the other guys. So, while I'd be happier if Jets hadn't turned out to be frauds (again), I'm also not upset or angry.

Exactly--it's a full 22% of the season so it's worth listening to the message, not shooting the messenger. The Jets were not a .900 team, are not a sub-500 team, but arguably a top 10 team by virtue of an all-world goaltender. That means there is still work to do to optimize the D and top-6 to achieve playoff success, unless they want to lay it all on Helle again.

In that light, it's worth considering whether the team's critics might actually have their playoff best interests at heart, as opposed to its constant defenders.
I think everyone wants the Jets to win now and especially in the playoffs. I'd probably rather have the critics actually in charge of the team though, demanding improvement.

That said, I think we're getting a bit too caught up in arguing about whether the Jets are playing bad and whether they'd make the playoffs/flame out in the first round again. What I'm interested in is: what do the "critics" think needs to change. Are some trades needed, and if so, who should go and who are realistic trade returns that would help?

Why did this dude pick out our last 18 games ? Is that because we won the 7 previous games? We are 5-2-1 in our last 7 , now it sounds good.
The 10 bad games before our last 8 the Jets were 3-7-0:

GF/60: 31st (1.62)
SCF/60: 29th (21.24)
xGF/60: 28th (2.11)
Shots/60: 24th (25.47)

Over the Jets' last 8 games (5-2-1):

GF/60: 17th (2.29)
SCF/60: 21st (24.78)
xGF/60: 15th (2.46)
Shots/60: 22nd (25.78)

An improvement to average-ish but not moving the needle a lot. Good thing the power play's been clicking and goaltending is solid as usual, because this team is drowning at 5v5.

I'm not reading through this thread so yell at me if you must
-league sv% has been around 0.900 during the regular season, so having 0.920+ is almost a guarantee for the PO's unless you're absolute dog shit in goal scoring which the Jets are not.
- Stanley sucks
- heinola isn't a difference maker from the backend
- glad to see ehlers back
-outside of Boston I don't think I've loved this team's overall game for like 2-3 weeks. And last two games really don't instill confidence.

Sick. That's an amazing way to hand wave away all of helleys playoff performances.

Edit: To add some meat to the post here and actually address you're showing off to the class, to harvest those sweet likes... my point was you're whistling past the graveyard with our skaters playing like shit, saying that Helley will drag us to the post season. And my answer to that is, he's been awful in the playoffs lately. So our skaters being dog shit, combined with helleys' typical playoff implosion spells an another early 1st round exit.

But I get it, why bother looking past the standings. We're 1st overall and nothing else to see here , amirite?

chevy needs to be aggressive and find a solution at the 2c, don't know who that will be but right now we have 2 lines that give us hardly anything

Yeah ppl often routinely gloss over Helle's PO performances as of late. He was great in 17-18 for sure, that'll be 7(!) years ago now.
If he's our MVP of the regular season given his stats above the league, then he's certainly not played upto that standard in the PO's.

Have you calculated how many of those games Ehlers has played and whether that plays any factor?

I want to make some easy money tonight.
I need the Debbie downers expert advise ... which teams are going to win tonight or should I say which teams are going to lose tonight?
Who would have thought the Jets losing brings out the happy to lose crowd on a Jets forum?

Do Oilers fans say "this team is garbage, McDavid and Drai are dragging us into the playoffs"?

I'm sure they'd love to have Helle. Avs also.

For everyone bitching about how bad the Jets have been the their last *insert the best number of games you can find to prove your point here*, I'm yet to hear of reasons why they think that's the case and what can be done about it

The one thing that needs to be addressed is how they handle pressure in their own end and how to come up with more controlled zone exits. I think that's the major cause of their 5v5 woes

Personel is probably a factor (we could use some upgrades on D) but maybe the systems need to be tweaked too. More picks to buy dmen time. Also, more puck reversals to the wak side away from pressure (but they cant just be last minute blind rims around the boards - the weak side D man has to recognize that their partner is under duress and release down low as an outlet)

FWIW, my eye test said that Stanley - Heinola were the pairing last night who handled zone exits the best

Regardless of what happened last night specifically, there is one player much, much weaker than the rest of the D when it comes to exiting our zone. His GF% looks good, but I think there is a cost to him being in the lineup beyond that. I imagine we all agree on this to an extent.

We are a pretty good squad defensively. 3 of our 4 lines have consistently kept the puck out of our net. Last year and this year both.

Playing Ehlers line more and Scheifele line less 5v5 will (i believe) help this team win more games, but it will upset the pecking order. So I imagine that's off the table for suggestions...

Playing Miller more and Pionk less will (I believe) help this team win more hockey games. But he is somehow behind Stanley in the pecking order again...

Plenty of solutions we have gone back and forth on in the summer time. Those issues haven't gone away. Just lying dormant during our hot streak to start the year
