The stuff some people say. Mind-boggling really.

Honestly, it's really not. If you take into account team needs one could easily choose Simmonds over Matt. With the center depth they already have I'd bet the Oilers would choose Wayne over Matt every time. Same for the Pens, probably the Hawks and probably the Leafs too.

Starting a team from scratch, I'd take the 1st line center over a first line winger unless that winger was elite level like Ovi (which Wayne is not)

Simmonds is not realistically available.

What would the Flyers need to add to Schenn to get Duchene?

Can Duchene play goal and top 2/3 D?
Seems to me that's what the Flyers need. Offense is not the problem.

This thread went to hell in a hurry.

Avs have a scoring problem right now. Duchene had 30 goals last year and currently leads the team in both points and goals despite missing two games. Trading him doesn't make sense unless you're going to give an equivalent, or better, forward back. And if you're going to do that, what's the point?

Honestly, it really is.

FYI Matt Duchene is also a better winger than Simmonds.

In 7 years he hasn't had a PPG season.

He played 1 shift in the game he got injured during the season he scored 70 regular season points; and he scored 73 points in 73 regular + postseason games that year. So he has had a PPG season, regardless of how pedantic you want to be.

You are aware that Duchene isn't just a better center than Simmonds, but also a better winger, right?

For what it's worth, I'd say just about every single person on our board likes Duchene and doesn't have a bad thing to say about him - we understand that he is a top-notch player we would be lucky to have. We very likely couldn't afford what it would take to get him and probably shouldn't make that deal at this point in our timeline, but that doesn't mean we can't see what a good player he is. Very likeable guy as well.

Are you seriously being logical and reasonable on HF? What is wrong with you? :shakehead

Not sure why the Flyers would want Duchene. Seems like their offense is fine. It seems to me the bigger holes are on defense and goaltending.

That being said the price tag on Duchene is probably huge. He'd easily be one of the top 3 players available the past 5 seasons.

A 25 year old, 65pts center, with two way ability, who happens to be one of the better faceoff men in the league is going to bring a killing and you are kidding yourself if you think otherwise.

If I'm the Avs the asking point starts with Provorov and gets a big + from there.

I don't know why the big laugh. You don't trade your best offensive player to downgrade to Schenn as a center piece. Provorov and 1st would be the price for me too. You don't get a talented center for anything less when we already have problems scoring goals. Schenn doesn't solve that while Provorov would help our defensive core while we wait for Jost to come in and Rantanen to pan out. I really don't think Schenn is a fit. It's like asking for Voracek or Giroux for Landeskog pretty sure you guys would say no.

Simmonds' name is tossed into every single thread, I would like to see what it would take to get Duchene to Philly without including him. I'm not opposed to seeing two offers though, one with and one without Simmonds.

Can't imagine the Flyers would be willing to part with the pieces it would take to get Duchene. And if anything, the Flyers need a #1 Dman to help right the ship. Flyers will only be trading away assets this year, not trying to acquire a stud young player. Makes little sense.

And I am likely in the extreme minority but how about Giroux and Streit for Duchene and Barrie!!! #blockbuster

It's even funnier when you realize that Flyers fans think they should be able to get Duchene for less than that.

Most of us acknowledged hes a good player and we'd like to have him on our team. But you are kidding yourself if you think he returns that package in a realistic trade.

That, of course, is ignoring the fact that the Flyers wouldnt involve Provorov in any trade for a piece that isn't even needed.

Giroux >>>>>> Landeskog
