This won't get over well with Flames fans, lets just put it that way. The Brodie / Barrie swap is ugly for them, even if Duchene > Monahan right now (in my opinion).

Calgary is high on Monahan. Look at the contract they just gave him. In Calgary's view, Monahan is equal to or better than Duchene going forward. Whether or not that's correct, that's how they view it.

So, IMO the only way Calgary would agree to this is if they thought that Barrie was better than Brodie. Which is VERY very unlikely IMO.

Duchene and Monahan are roughly similar; Duchene is better all round but also plays wing now if I'm not mistaken. But the Flames can't afford to trade Monahan without getting a bonafide centre back.

Moreover, regardless of the poor start, Brodie is much better than Barrie defensively. And with Giordano and Hamilton on the team and Andersson/Kylington in the system, there's no need for small, offensive defenceman.

MacKinnon+Johnson for Monahan+Brodie is fairer but also a deal I suspect neither fanbase has any interest in.

"Change of scenery" trades don't include two core players from each team. It usually is a one for one swap of struggling players or prospects.

Duchene has been playing Center, last game was his first game back so he saw less ice time and played wing.

Duchene is much better than Monahan, the only argument Monahan has going for him is he's younger. I agree Brodie is much better than Barrie defensively though.

The difference between Duchene and Monahan is big IMO but the difference between Brodie and Barrie is a lot bigger.

Duchene > Monahan, Brodie >> Barrie I think is the current valuation from both sides, so the flames pass I think, but it's not that far.

Mackinnon >> Monahan, could something be worked out around:

Mackinnon + Barrie for Monahan + Brodie? Perhaps a slight add from calgary (Poirier?)

Nah, there's not really anything on Calgarys roster that I'd want to move MacKinnon for. It'd have to not make sense for you guys to get Nate. Something like MacKinnon + Barrie for Monahan + Brodie + Bennett or Tkachuk.

That's terrible for Calgary. This coming from an Oilers fan.

Brodie is better than Barrie and you want Monahan and Bennett?

Hell no from Calgary. While Monahan has been atrocious this season for whatever reason, I have full confidence that he will regain his old form and become the player we were hoping he would become when we signed him to that contract.

Also, Brodie >> Barrie. That's what REALLY tips the scale in the Avs favor.

 calm down. I love MacKinnon but any logical hockey fan would call you insane

Brodie for Norris apparently.

We're not saying that at all. We're just pointing out the fact that Brodie is much much better than Barrie and tips the heavily scale in the Avs favor, even if you think (and rightfully so at the moment) that Duchene is better than Monahan.

Trading Brodie is just a no. Trading Monahan.. No. Look our players aren't playing well, their values have never been lower.. You don't trade them now. That's the dumbest idea possible.

Patience people. Patience. We've won 3 of 5. Last game was ugly but those happen. Relax. Take a breath.

I can't see why Calgary would even consider this. MacKinnon has been better this year, but they are pretty similar. I'd give an edge to Mackinnon for sure though. Brodie is way better then Barrie though. I wouldn't do Monahan and Brodie for Mackinnon and Barrie let alone adding Tkachuk or Bennett.

I'm not going to disagree that Brodie is a better defenseman than Barrie, but aren't both of them currently having pretty lame seasons? I'd imagine Brodie will pick it up fairly soon, but Barrie at his peak is a 50 pt defenseman and nowadays those are as rare as they come.
